Kind of used up the woods I had in shop. Sides are maple and oak. Top is oak and mahogany. Front is strips of oak I cut. Shelves are plywood.

Since I don't have a 24" planer it's a lot easier attaching these 3/8" veneer strips.

I will be offering a flatpack of veneer strips in about a month. Cost would be around 150 bucks for martycube, and around the same for a pair of tempests.

I am trying to figure out a new build with some modified martysubs to be only 15'' deep if possible behind a screen. Maybe 15"x40"x48'' with a port tune around 15. So first question is: Are those dimensions possible? Also, would it be ok to have the driver pushed up into a corner of the box vs in the center?

My room is 20'x21'x10' and I am planning on 4 of them built into a baffle wall at 1/4 spacing for best room response as suggested by others here. After get winisd setup I was thinking 4 UXL-18's or even 4 daytons would be way more than enough with the UXL's having 130dbs at 20hz. Then I realized my seat is about 4 meters back from the screen so I adjusted this in winisd and now I'm wondering if 4 will really be enough. So, I went back and looked at the AVS ULF thread and I'm even more confused. It says it is measured at 4m and when you put in 4 sealed UXL-18's it says they'll do 110dbs at 10hz. On winisd it shows more like 99dbs at 10hz if LP is at 4m. So which one is right? If I change the LP in winisd to 1m they seem to match the ULF thread much better so I'm just not sure which one is a better predictor of what kind of headroom to expect in my actual room.

If you're looking at WinISD it's talking about half space anechoic response. Down at 10hz there's so much constructive intereference (room gain) that you're often more than 10db in excess of the WinISD prediction. If you want ULF, the martysub isn't an effective choice. If you want SPL, it's a good choice. The UXL-18 is a great sealed sub. Really really good. Should get you near reference levels down to 5hz if you have a good room gain profile.

I'm not really too concerned about getting to 5hz but I was hoping to build something big enough to get the port tune down to 15hz. Below that I'm not really too concerned. I will definitely be going with 4 subs and it just looks like you loose so much spl going sealed just to get those single digits. I want to be able to hit 120dbs at 15hz if possible and I'm not too worried about anything lower.

Do you think that is possible with 4 UXL's in 15''x40''x42 ported boxs with a 15hz tune?

Very nice. I like the 2 tone. I contemplated on doing black and natural oak on my stand.

I wish I had more of a workshop here at home. Right now I use a garage/office for shop. After the office gets closed my dedicated theater gets started, yippee.

If anyone is interested I posted new photos and build today for my projector screen valance.

Thanks ,
Look forward to your thread. My right rear Polk speaker is partially blown. Thinking of getting the fusion 6. Then later might move them to my computer lab if I want to get some coaxials for surrounds.

I am in love with the MTMs. I placed it on top of the marty cube yesterday and it looked very menacing in all black Duratex with the flat black speakers. I set it down where its going now and it ain't moving. This thing is a beast. I ran YPAO on my Yamaha receiver to set up the levels and distance and such and it set the center channel at -10 which is the lowers it can go. It set the front mains at +3 this is just to get them to be close enough in levels. The sound is beautiful and sounds like you are there. Played some Blink 182 and some Passenger and the guitar solos are amazing. Felt as if they were playing in my living room. I will be doing 2 more MTM for the fronts running vertical on top of the cubes, or if I get brave AKA (Wife gives me permission) I might consider the Fusion-12 Tempest. I will then do the coaxial for the surrounds. Can't wait to get it all dialed in. Here is a shot of the MTM I have the waveguide blocked because I am not proud of it at the moment. I messed it up and have another on order.

Keep in mind that I tried Dura text on it to make it blend in and I talk to you and realized it was a bad idea so I tried removing it. It wouldn't come off with just water or sandpaper so I used paint remover which of course started to melt the plastic. LOL I threw it away and ordered a new one but wanted to try it so I took it out of the trash and plugged it in.

I thought it would have a big gouge. Right now my mtm is vertical and I didn't finish the bottom cuz I thought it was going to stay horizontal. It looks real ugly.

Hold tight until the GTG like. And use it to audition the tempests and others.

Donny,

This turned out GORGEOUS!  You could probably flatpack something like that, and make yourself some $$$.

You know what else......Im starting not to like this thread, because i want to just relax for a bit now and just watch some movies  / enjoy the new subs, but every time i come in here, i feel myself saying "  I'd love to give something like that a try" or im looking at cessna's pics, and saying to myself..."i bet that new center he's got sounds amazing....i think i want one"

whats the next thing to be produced by the donny wood co.?  End tables, new wall unit, sofa table? : )

Watching a movie tonight with the 6000 and dare I say it, it's too much bass. I know I need to eq it but as far as levels you guys think it's best to lower the gains on the amplifier or lower the sub level on the receiver?

I use the bass trims on my preamp to turn the bass up or.down a bit. Don't know if your yammy can do that easily.

I tried to adjust the sub trim on my Sherwood R972 by turning Trinnov off and boosting it by 5 and it was a disaster. Martycube started making popping sounds with only the first light on, on the Berry. Took the driver off and peeled the sealing foam off thinking it was an air leak. Turns out after re-engaging Trinnov problem was fixed even at 3 lights on. Wonder what the hell is going on...

On the fly adjustments for all speakers. If your remote doesn't have this then turn gains down a bit. Once you get your mic back you can eq it back.

Not a huge deal as it works perfect with Trinnov on. I just thought I'd mess with trims for fun. I can always turn gain up in amp I guess.

Just a bit of an update.

I am still offering marty flatpacks but I understand people waiting for Erich's Stonehenge. I am really loving my hardwood additions to my living room. Equally important is my wife really likes the look of wood over painted black boxes. She says it much more warm and beautiful.

I am currently working with cessna1466u on an 3/8" veneer for his new fusion mtm. Will be shipping him the first veneer flatpack. He is my guinea pig and we will try to work out and kinks to this process.

I will be putting a mahogany veneer on my mtm as well. What I found with the Stereo cabinet project is that the lexel along with a few well placed 1" brad nails works fast and well. The brad nails can be filled easily and are not noticeable if you do it right.

Since shipping will be a fraction of what the subs are I can offer these flat packs for a real good price. People can pick their desired wood. I get a good price from a local place. Doesn't take me long to prepare the wood or box them either.
