If you've come to the Beast thread, there is only one DIY sub here to be discussed or selected...the SI HS24. smile.gif Even better, Nick and Stereo Integrity are located less than an hour from you in Claremont, NC. Go have a listen. And good luck with whatever you choose.

Edit: I'm not a fanboy for SI. I own 3 LMS 5400s and 1 (soon 2) UXL-18s. And I loved Beasts 8 SI18s. Choose whatever but the HS24 should definitely on your list.

Ideas from the group are welcome too. So far,I am thinking of a Marty or flat pack from Erich for a Dayton.

Welcome man! Love to see another NC DIY'er for sure! You are more than welcome to swing up to A-town anytime to hear some DIY subs (and surrounds, screen, and theater in general minus the mains) in action! PM me and we can set something up when it is convenient for you. I will be out of commission for the next 2 weeks but after that I am pretty wide open. Sorry you missed it, but there will be another for sure. smile.gif

I've got to get down to you one day to listen to those 50's beast. Knowing what the 60's are capable of with the midbass on drums, I'm sure the big brother 50's are better at it. Would love to hear it, although I get a little anxiety just thinking about it. Seriously, it is hard enough to tolerate it with the 60's...

Haha, anytime brother. A-town has enough fantastic things going on you can bring the wife, or family, or whatever, and carve out several hours for you to sneak out and have a demo. It's an easy town to coerce anyone into visiting.... Just sayin' smile.gif

I thought you guys would like this image. smile.gif Here are a few prototype motors that I designed to test the 24" platform. Highlights are 60+mm top plate height, 45mm Xmax, 3" coil, XBL^2 motor, 90+ lbs per motor, etc. The coil in the background is a 3" coil for reference. cool.gif

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I'll certainly lookup SI in Claremont and schedule a visit, sounds great. Gotta support the local industry!wink.gif

And thanks for the invite Beast. I'll look over my schedule within the next month and shoot you some times in a PM, maybe we'll work something out.

I'm betting the 50's will sound incredible in your room since the 60's stole the show (at least for me they did) at the blind GTG.

The 60's sounded pretty awesome at Popalocks house, despite just being set down and wired up. I would love to hear a pair under optimal conditions.

I probably should have said more about the motors other than a few highlights and a picture. tongue.gif These motors are more of a statement piece than anything that will be available for the DIY community. Those motors are the first motors of a few different motors that I have designed to really show what can be done with the 24" platform. We will be going to a few shows throughout the year and talking to multiple vendors about the performance and availability of the 24 so things might get interesting in the retail market pretty soon. biggrin.gif

One of the two motors pictured is for me personally and the other motor will be used for meetings. cool.gif
