Just a question of curiosity: Why would I want the RE when I can have the TC Sounds LMS Ultra 5400 for similar price?

I would take the ultra for sure but I mean, the xxxs have absolute monster excursion pretty much the best, so for pure ULF I'd wager they would win.

I am going to put one in a 8.0CF sealed box. I am getting it for the low end. I have plenty of other 18's for the rest of the bass.

So XO around 40hz or so? (which should probably work out well with that huge inductance)

Yep, thinking 40 or 50 hz. Have a MiniDSP 10x10HD for integrating it into my system.

Hmmm, you obviously have not had both drivers.

I have had both drivers.

I still have both drivers.

I have more of the RE XXX 18' drivers.

Will I buy more LMS Ultras..... Hmmmm. No.

Interesting how people who don't know what they are talking about are very vocal.

They have the same low bl spec for the 12,15 and 18 . I dunno 18.16 Tm seems low for the performance.

No need to be an overly defensive *******. I was simply asking information. I thought I phrased my question in a position of me not knowing the details.

The XXX is designed for IB or LARGE sealed box alignments.
The LMS has a high roll off and dangerous mechanical cut-off given the huge motor force, so it doesn't work well for IB's; it's designed for small sealed boxes.
If you put an LMS in a 3cuft box vs an XXX in a 3cuft box, I'm sure the LMS would win; but put the LMS in a 9999cuft box and it loses.

Apples vs Oranges.

What I want to see, is a graph of the SI24 vs XXX in an IB, now that would be interdasting... wink.gif

Based on things I have read from very, very reliable sources, the motor should have been even larger but was scaled back due to costs. Post 10 - http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/fix-my-speaker/96307-2006-re-xxx-18-yep-autotronic.html

Excursion-Limited:

10hz @ 104db, 114db top-end

10hz @ 102db, 116db top-end

Power-Limited:

19hz @ 116db, 119db top-end

19hz @112db, 120db top-end

But in reality, the LMS would be mechanically distorting @ 38mm and be near death, where as the RE would still be safe.

My bad, I didn't see it as a question. smile.gif Maybe a few too many beers last night, makes comprehension difficult.

Good beer I hope? I haven't had any in a while. Eating healthy and my old beer habit don't mix well these days.

Nice. If anyone wants to talk good beer shoot me a PM. Currently updating the 30 drafts in my restaurant. Anderson Valley Summer Solstice (CA) just arrived for the season. As has been the case for several years now, it's delicious.

I own 3 LMS 5400s and a pair of UXL-18s and have great respect for the Re Audio XXX as it has quite the reputation as an IB monster. I'm glad its back.

However, I wonder why anyone would be a XXX 18" for IB when there is the SI HS24 24" sub. At Beast's GTG, it was quite the monster in a 16cu.ft. box. It took 8,000w and didn't sweat. Obviously, it couldn't handle that type of power IB but it was originally designed for IB and found to work well in 10-20cu.ft. enclosures.

And since a few people seem to have issues with SI lately, can we just keep to the merits of the equipment. If you like SI, great, if you don't, fine too.

I couldn't imagine ever having an enclosure that size, even if I had a dedicated theater room. I'd have to hide it somewhere or work it into the plan so that it's less visible. Did anyone ever look into using the volume under a couple of theater steps up to the stage as enclosure volume? Probably a good 30 ft3 of unused space under there.

I have seen builds that use the volume in the riser as extra box space for subs mounted in columns in the back of the room. I would imagine somebody has done a similar thing in the front using the stage.
