Hi my name is Mattias Vendel,

My daytime job is as an electrician and my friend works at the woodshop as an CNC operator. At weekends and evenings we spend time building the speakers and when I´m not there I do the drawings and designs at home.

Me and my friend have some builds I would like to share.
Until today it´s only subwoofer builds but soon we will start with a ML-TL speaker from Creative Sound Solutions - CSS Criton.2 but there will be a separate thread with info and pictures of all the build stages.
Reason for this thread is just because it´s to much to upload on the forum since I have only been visiting the buy and sell classified forum here before.

Hope you enjoy the builds.
I understand that you may think that we are a production company but right now it´s just an hobby which have escalated and the last build with four LMS-R 15 and two Ultimax 15" are two friends we helped building new subwoofers at the Swedish forum to learn more about cabinet design.

My first DIY:
Dual Sonotube 400mm diameter absolute minimum to fit a 15inch driver
Amp: Behringer iNuke 6000Dsp
Drivers: Dayton Audio DVC385-88 15"
Clothing: White leatherette (found very good quality feels like real leather)

The thread continues when I build new cabinets big ported 190liters instead for the Dayton drivers but my wife started to cry when I brought them home to our apartment so I sold them to a friend and made inserts to fit his TC Sounds LMS 4000 12" instead.
The sonotubes was sold including the Dayton drivers and with the money I started to plan a new subwoofer build.

Final result should look like this first picture

Today 6months later they are back for the paint job I can post the result in this thread later this weekend.

Third build
The subwoofers I use today
Dual CSS SDX12 Hybrid Ported/Sealed

Fourth build
My woodshop friends subwoofers
Dual Eminence LAB12 Hybrid Ported/Sealed

Fifth and sixth build
Four LMS-R 15 & Two Ultimax 15 sealed
One guy will get two LMS-R 15" towers and the other guy two singel Dayton Ultimax 15" same cabinets design but different roundovers on the edges

Wow.  That sonotube sub is -fantastic-.  Really nice take on the design.  Everything else looks great, too, but I have a special fondness for approaches that are less common.  Nicely done.  Really striking. Post more pics and projects to inspire!

Also, "friend with a CNC machine" might be the new "friend with a boat" on the list of "friends everyone should try to find"!

On a side note, I've known 2-3 Mattiases in my time, and every one of them was interesting and clever.  Does Sweden not allow stupid, irritating people to be known as Mattias? ; )

Thanks!

It´s building and designing which is the fun part especially bold unusual design and watching movies and listening to music also of course from time to time. (I must thank my wife too she approves my designs or else they won´t enter the living room biggrin.gif)

For a brief moment, I had you confused with Matthias Wandel. But then I saw your photos and remembered who you are. Fine work you've done.

You and your friends are craftsmen, there's really no other way to put it. I have seen a few of your builds now, and I've been impressed with the quality and attention to detail on every single one of them.

If you take yourself too seriously expect me to do the exact opposite

These subs still have one detail left a brushed aluminum ring around the driver.

Interesting, I was thinking of doing something similar to cover the rather industrial looking accordion surround.

What is the shape of the cross section and what inner and outer diamters?

My plan was actually not to cover the driver at all since I have no solution to attaching the ring like that on this cabinet.

So outer diameter just slightly smaller then the edge to the portplate cutout and inner diameter same as drivers outer.

I'm going to use the driver mounting holes; any reason why you can't?

They way I've seen the rings done is to use small flat neo magnets on the sub basket and the ring. Looked great and didn't vibrate at all.

Great suggestion, forgot about that option.

And great timing, I'm just about to start making them.
