Minimarty Video Subwoofer Build

After building many Martysub enclosures I decided to make a video thread of my latest one, which is the minimarty. You would follow the same steps if you were building the martycube or full marty. I decided on the minimarty because I wanted to match my other one I already built. This one is horizontal (my center channel sits on top of it) and my other one is vertical. I like the minimarty since it has virtually the same performance of the full marty and its 8" shorter.

I was in a big rush in putting this box together so its not a hollywood production. Basic camera angles but it is in HD. I have uploaded all the videos to Youtube and I will give the links below. I have the hole 3 hour plus build in one video and the 15 individual vids broken down so if your only interested in finishing you can watch just that. All but about 45 mins of the build is on the videos to see. Some boring sanding I didn't show. Post two has all the cut sheets, drawings, and info for Martysubs. I hope this is a benefit for people just starting out and don't have a lot of experience. A couple of pics of finished minimarty

The wood I use is ultralite 3/4" mdf. The place I buy it from (Windsor Plywood in Canada) cuts it down to 4 equal pieces for me for free. That way I can bring it home in my car.

Here is the videos
Whole 3 hour plus video

Perfect timing I think because I just decided to build two minis for myself. It'll be my first diy endeavor.
Will you release videos as you go or all at once at the end?

I wanted to vote "no" just to be different. But, Darth Vader came from the planet Vulcan and said that he'll melt my brain if I do, so I didn't have a choice. I voted "yes".

never done a poll question but its kind of lame(my question). If people have some requests for stuff they want to see let me know. I won't guarantee i will do it, but I will think about it. I just need to find a camera that takes off 30 pounds of my appearance eek.gifsmile.gifcool.gif

Good idea Donny... It would help out people new to diy, for sure.

Also make the girl u posted your assistant, in that same outfit..

She can hand you tools as u need them, etc.

U do the above, and every man in the world with an internet connection, might end up with a Marty sub:)

Ok starting this tomorrow,

I need the driver on the end and the port going up. This box is sitting right beneath my center channel. Sizes are a little different cuz I am using ultralight mdf which mine is 11/16"

Thinking of black walnut veneer. Will pick that up tomorrow. smile.gif

my quick math shows about a 10 cubic footer tuned to around 13hz.

is that what you are shooting for?

the first port resonance is going to be pretty low, about 120 hz. might not want to go that low...

38 inches of total measured port length should tune it to ~15hz and push the first port resonance up to around 180hz.

Listen. It's All Good.

Even with 2" instead of 3" high port ? Original Marty is 3" by 36" for 17hz. If I went to 2" high I thought I would have to make it a lot longer. If not I will reduce length. Thanks for spotting it smile.gif

sorry for not seeing this earlier.

when the port is WIDENED, it needs to be LONGER for the same tune.

when the port is NARROWED, it needs to be SHORTER for the same tune.
