Alright been messing with the settings in the amp.
Settings i had
HPF 20hz, butterworth, and 12db
Filter 1 -10db, 20hz, hs12

When on these settings i played Blackhawk down. I remember from papalocks video on YouTube the drivers flying back and forth. Mine kinda just moved very little.

I changed the setting to this and got much more movement, but am not sure this was what I should have done.

HPF 20hz ,butterworth, 6db
Filter 1 2.0db, 20hz, hs12

I noticed the biggest difference when changing the db in the HPF, if i went higher like 12 and above, it seemed to be less output..maybe I am just crazy though.

Your initial settings with the -10db shelf filter probably brought the hpf down to about 12hz or so. So the activity in that scene would be pretty limited considering it's concentrated around 6-8 hz. You aren't going to be feeling or hearing that low anyway so you might as well keep that setting to protect your drivers.

Just my opinion though!

Filter 1 should be peq not a hs12.
I wouldn't use bhd as my reference. Try wotw, Tron, Pacific Rim .

Why does LTD list it as a hs12 filter on the thread about pushing below 20hz?

I use 6db xo slope and suggest 2dbs boost with peq at 20. This is different then ltd02 workaround. I tried the work around when I had my Minimarty and I preferred it this way. They essentially do the same thing. The peq does eat up see amp power.

OK guys, after reading this entire thread and Wyat's reactions I'm very interested in maybe tackling this type of build myself.

Sorry to derail the thread, but only for one small question to the experts - I currently have 4 PSA XS15s (non-SE) in my ~5000 cu. ft. space. How many of these would I have to build to roughly double the output I have now??

Now, back to your regular programming.

Two large 10cuft cabs would do it or four smaller ones 4-6 cuft. Jbrown went from two xv30 to two large cabs and big improvement .

Alan, truthfully its not even fair to compare. I went from dual XS30's to four large ported cabinets that have the equivalent output of 12-14 FV15HP's! All for less then the cost of a single Triax from PSA. I really LOVED my XS30's but it's not even a fair fight. I'm just trying to remember your room layout. You don't have a false wall do you? I don't think you do.

You could run four SI 18's and pick up four flat pack ported subs cabinets from Erich and power all of them from a single Peavey IPR2 7500 or two iNuke 6000DSP's, all for around 2 grand.

Thanks guys! Got me thinking seriously now.

Here's my (living) room. I'm thinking I could fit at least 4 in that space behind my chairs. Do you think it's a good idea to put them all in back....I don't think they would fit up front where I have the PSAs now.

The ported flat pack cabinet that Erich sells is 30"x30"x16" and has a port tune of 18hz, its a great value if you can make that size work for you.

They work out to be $177ea plus shipping.

Just a random thought I had last night...has anyone converted these to be down-firing? That way they could be stacked 3 or 4 high.

Thinking it would be a pretty easy mod, just put some legs on and BAM!

Just messed around with REW real quick. I have no idea if I did any of this right. AVR was set at -20db and matched in rew. This is what I ended up getting out of it. As I said again, I dont trust my setup.

Just have to fix 43hz null and 80hz. 43 is minor but 80 is bigger. Even ifyou cross at 80 you want flatter.

That's looking pretty good, but it's hard to tell with your graph settings. Follow these guidelines and repost and we can get a better idea of what's going on. Also, try measuring at a little higher SPL, try -10 MV.

Preferred settings for subwoofer graphs:
VERTICAL = 45dB-105dB
HORIZONTAL = 15Hz-200Hz

Although your lower limit should probably be 10hz because you still have extension down there.

If I want to fix that null, do i boost that frequency in the filters? Also what type of eq? Hs12 or peq.

If it's truly a null, you can't boost it out. The only fix is sub or MLP placement adjustments.

You could try boosting it (PEQ) and see what happens, but you'll probably just be pouring watts into a hole.

Alright messed around again. Here the volume is set at -23db. If I go below -20db REW warns me it hears clipping. Only 2 lights are lighting up on the inuke, so I am not sure about that. ANy tips and suggestions would be welcome for this newb.

Frequency response looks pretty good.

I wouldn't boost anything without seeing also a graph with either L or R included. And also I would check the AVR's crossover setting as mentioned earlier. Try raising it 20Hz? Just my 2 cents...

Just read this whole thread. Awesome result!
