Thanks John. I was wondering what to do.

You can also use photo bucket or some other photo server. Takes a little extra work but you can quickly post the pics in multiple threads and forums. Just another method.

I've just been uploading to imgur and then just using the "insert image" and pasting in the imgur url. It's a lot easier/faster.

I'm just going to skip AVS image uploading and use an imgur account (technically, you don't even need an account)

Upload (cut and paste or drag and drop, urls or images, or classic upload)

copy code

paste code

To further add to what Anthony said, if you type an "l" (lower case L) at the end of the image url before .jpg or .png or whatever, then it will make it the size of a large thumbnail, instead of full resolution (which makes the pictures HUGE off a camera)

so it would be

http://i.imgur.com/2yc00Vol.png

instead of http://i.imgur.com/2yc00Vo.png

one problem with hosting pictures externally is that over time many of those accounts delete pictures and the threads end up with a whole bunch of busted links. that was one nice feature about the last version of the avs software--it was easy to host the files at avs and insert them into the threads. a year or two (or more) later, all the pics are still there.

They will implement the advanced vbulletin software before you know it. It allows bulk uploads and management.

Same idea as the old uploader, a bit different interface. If they don't - we will need to start a petition thread to ask them for it.

This current system is year 2k tech.

I've been on many forums that migrated software in which all old attachments were wiped. I have a several year old imgur account and all images are still up/shrug

can't speak to imgur. there are countless old avs threads that were really nice until imageshack and photobucket dropped the pics. that's what i was referring to.

^ +1

The flip side is if using a third party hosting service is you own the images, and have the right to remove them for whatever reason where -as some forums, Home Theater Shack comes to mind, makes them theirs after 30 days.

How does that work? I use Photobucket and don't like that clicking on the image in AVS takes you to the host site.

I've used tapatalk to post a few pictures but I noticed the pic file is actually hosted by tapatalk and not avsforum. Same problem with broken picture links if tapatalk goes out of business.

I'm surprised that google picasa web is not used more.
They are big, stable company. I've used them since Mar-2007, 15GB of free storage.
It's easy to upload directly to that from my Mac via iPhoto or Aperture. Same from WinTel computers.
You can directly upload also from within the web app, or using their small picasa application.
Plus, for smartphones so easy to upload from them to picasa.

Then, you can specify the size of the file being displayed easily, like this:
picture size simply by the "s800" or "s1024" or sXXX, the XXX being the pix width desired.

Test of photo at 288 pix via "https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-8LFIEU2a4eY/U-Q3eYYiJ6I/AAAAAAAASa8/HCibQMycwTY/s288/Aug-7-2014%2520Star%2520Trails.jpg":

Test of photo at 512 pix via "https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-8LFIEU2a4eY/U-Q3eYYiJ6I/AAAAAAAASa8/HCibQMycwTY/s512/Aug-7-2014%2520Star%2520Trails.jpg":

Test of photo at 1024pix via "https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-8LFIEU2a4eY/U-Q3eYYiJ6I/AAAAAAAASa8/HCibQMycwTY/s1024/Aug-7-2014%2520Star%2520Trails.jpg":

I've got nearly 3,000 images there - most uploaded at 1024pix, some 1600pix, a few full size RAW files also, they don't care format jpg/tiff/png/raw.
It's 15GB free storage, more than that and you can choose a plan.
You can see my 3,000 images are under 1GB, I'll "never" run outta free storage space.

just 1 more post...
I've got 42 albums...I can set each one's visibility as private, via link only, or public, which is handy.
Even private I can share images in it to forums, that just means others cannot see that album.
Public is of course open to all, and via link if you send a link to people then they can access that album

and uploading to an album is so easy, you can upload within an album directly to that, or easily create a new album..
I have a flickr account, hardly use that, have not tried other photo hosting services.
This has worked for me since 2007.
