You still got a little ways left before being considered a basshead...don't worry, you'll get there.
You've crossed the point of no return

When I get the first Marty built I think I'm gonna set it up just like kevimgs with my 2 fv15hps on the sides of my TV and the Marty in the corner.

Do u guys think I should run my fvs in a higher output mode like 20hz dual port and let the Marty do the work down low or just leave them in 14hz 2 port where I have them now?

When I get both martys done I think I'm gonna try one sub I'm each corner with the fvs near feild on either side my couch. I need to learn to use REW so that I can get everything as smooth as possible before I use sub EQ

Got the uxl18 in the mail today!

Man this thing is amazing. It actually looks much nicer in person than the online pics.
I thought the carbon fiber was a more silvery color because of the pics I've seen (which I wasn't really a fan of) but its actually almost completely black color.

This baby looks mean everywhere from the thick foam to the carbon fiber woofer to the 3 magnets the size of large pancakes.

Can't wait to get it hooked up now!

Get yourself a speakon connector chassis like this http://www.parts-express.com/neutrik...mount--092-054 and a chunk of good 12AWG wire like this http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_i...seq=1&format=2 and buy a cable to go from the amp to the connector like this http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_i...seq=1&format=2. Wire the positive from the driver to the +1 terminal on the speakon connector plate and the negative to the -1.

And you'll probably want a RCA to XLR cable to go from your AVR to the inuke like this http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_i...seq=1&format=2.

You can pretty much put the speakon connector chassis plate anywhere on the sub enclosure that works for you, oh and a 15/16th wood drill bit is the perfect cut out for the speakon chassis.

radio shack might be a better bet than best buy....

radio shacks website shows that they stock the items jbrown discussed, though it will vary from store to store, so id say call ahead first. To verify for yourself search for speakon and xlr

id think that best buy, is less likely to carry those items, unless it's the type of best buy which also carries musical instruments / pro audio accessories ( the one near my house is setup like this, but not all are ).

You'll need an SPL meter, also I've never seen a Radio Shack any of the items that I said you'd need. I'd almost be shocked if they did have them. You'd probably be better off seeing if you have any local shops that rent DJ stuff, they'd be more likely to have it then Radio Shack.

There's no way Best Buy would carry any of those items either.

+1 / -1, should be correct.

you will also wire up the speakon connector to the speaker cable, the same way. On the other hand if you bought speakon speaker cables ( with speakon connectors already attached ) your good to go.

Speakon's can be a little tricky the first time. Youtube has good videos though, showing how to unscrew the connectors, get them wired up, and then put back together.

Buddy, i'm psyched for you! their is something pretty bad ass about the first time your get a beastly 18 inch sub fired up, and going to work, in the enclosure that you made.

Thanks Kevings!

Ya man I'm so pumped. I have anxiety because Iv never done this before and don't know what to expect yet I have high hopes. If this thing works out well I'll def be sold on DIY for life.

okay so when I do hook all this up do I go from my sub out and to my amp then to the woofer?

lol, relax your anxiety buddy, it'll all be fine, and you'll be in bass heaven soon : )

In fact, It IS going to work out well. You have followed a proven plan, and followed the advice given to you here by lots of guys who have already gone down the diy path, some even multiple times.

you got the right idea.....sub out to input on the amp, and then speaker out from the amp to the sub. next step after that would be to calibrate the sub for spl to your liking. Personally I like the sound at about 3db hot. It gives a nice bump in LFE SPL, but isnt enough to really hurt anything / make your bass sound out of balance relative to your other speakers ( at least for me/in my room )

Be sure to remember to get your HPF ( high pass filter ) in place as this will protect your sub from over excursion.

And then you'll want to EQ your sub a bit by using the dsp portion of your inuke amp, in order to smooth out the response.

If any of what i wrote above is unclear just say so / ask for clarification.

Don't need to use yapo. In a pinch use your cell phone as a spl meter.
