Your CC 1099 looks amazing BTW. And congrats on getting your crossovers from the crossover master builder himself; Mr. Matt Grant.

Very similar. Wont be able to give definitive review until I have 1099 for a week. The midrange clarity is similar, both need 100hz boost. The 1099 is snappier and more lively. 228 is smoother. Both great just personal preference .

Will be interested in how my minions with upgraded xo compare . The driver in my minion is top shelf and same cd. I hope the minions will make good surrounds eventually .

Matt was never super happy with the original. Midrange a little heavy and top end a little light. Could eq it pretty good but never perfect. The minion wasn't a big seller on diysoundgroup and matt had lots of other designs on his plate.

Voices sounded a Tad thick. He is really happy with v2 so I think midrange will be more articulate and detailed. Top end is much easier to eq then midrange for me.

So, your XO parts were delivered while I was at work, so they left a pick up slip. They didn't have the package in the afternoon. So I'll try tomorrow. Hopefully they're open, small town.

While waiting for the watco to cure so I can poly over it I tried matching my minions with the same veneer . They looked like this

And I put a 3/4" roundover and used one piece of veneer

I was pretty happy that no bubbles appeared. I dampened the corner bends of the veneer with water. It helped. Wood groaned but didn't split or break.

Its a potatoes and onions box done in country charm motif. My wife saw it on a trip and had to have it. Its there to cover up wires in behind.

lol...4 years ago, my wife saw a cookie jar with decorated with honey bee's on the outside. Today our entire kitchen is covered in little knick knack's with honey bees. When i tell her to chill out with buy anymore "bee stuff" she just points at my home theater room and gives me the "oh really" look, lol.

Awesome job. That's gonna be a sweet system all done.

XO is started, but the parts didn't come into the PO Tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to send it Tuesday and you'll be listening by the weekend.

I always end up going back to watco oil. Its idiotproof and the combo with minwax is nice. The veneer of the minions was harder. Had to pull really tight around the corner. Much easier with a vaccuum press.

My minions with the new xo are sounding sweet. Really happy with mtg90 work.

I have a question about how you edged your minions. I have the same quandary with my 1099s. I was going to do a 1/2 or 3/4 roundover on the cabinet (I already have the baffle pre-rounded). However, the baffle roundover creates a bevel line that doesn't seem to line up with the roundover on the top sides. Does that stand out on yours? Is there a way to reconcile the two?

You can hand sand the roundovers to blend in. The problem I had was to put the veneer up to the edge of the baffle and blend it in. The veneer is higher then the baffle edge. I put a small 1/4" channel that seperates the two. Makes it look part of the design

If you look closely you can see the groove. Not what I would do if I was building cab from scratch but a usable workaround .

Spray. Light first coat. Heavy second coat and sand even with 600 grit and light 3rd coat. I'm not the best sprayer. I was born with eyes not fused so my depth perception isn't great.

Too bad? Why wouldn't you lug it with you? That thing's your new baby now. You need to show it off.
