Stereo Integity HT18 *6 Infinite Baffle

Hello everyone,
I don't post on here very often, I'm more of a reader, my name is George. I ordered 4 SI HT 18s out of the first batch last year and I just recently ordered 2 more to be delivered on Tuesday. I'm going to be using them in an infinite baffle with a manifold hidden in the walk-in closet that opens up to the master suite area about 40*18 total ft^2. The other side is a typical Florida open floor plan with living room, family room, kitchen and dining area, probrably about 40*40 with vaulted Ceilings. I'm going to attempt to add pictures of my progress so far.

This is the start of the opening, it will have to be made taller of course but I wanted to know the spacing of the studs and build a stable platform.

This is the opening in relation to the television. I hope it doesn't shake off the wall.

So there you have it, there will be 2 18s per side of the manifold for a total of 6. How much more bracing do you think will be needed and any other suggetions would be great. This is my first time with a home enclosure of any sort. I built some boxes for cars years ago but I'm basically a beginner again. Thanks for looking. OH and the amp is a crown XLS 2500, I will be running it 3 ohm stereo, they are dual 2ohm subs. Each of the subs voicecoils will be wired in parallel to 1 ohm, and then 3 in series per channel.

Hey, looking forward to seeing how this project turns out, thanks for sharing! It has been recomended that you use 2 layers of 3/4 material, one layer of OSB or Plywood and one layer of MDF. I'm not sure about the bracing part.

I am planning to order a couple of these tomorrow for an infinite baffle. Have you already had the 4 running and decided it was not enough? How big is your room?

No, I havnt used any of them yet. Theyve been sitting in the box. I noticed I had the room for the additional two once I saw the studs were 24 inches apart, and I ordered two more. Its an open plan Florida room about 40*40 with vaulted ceilings. Its a lot of space to fill up.

I wanted the option to use them in a box if I don't like the infinite baffle. This is something new to me and I'm not sure how I will like it.

I still have to fill the gap around the outside of the enclosure, and then I can pull a response graph. The lower frequencies are much louder than the higher up right now. It is fairly loud, the part I like most so far is that the sound is much cleaner than a box. It doesn't have that compressed sound you get with a box.

Sounds good, I don't know if my house will still be standing... it sounds like the house from that Halloween cartoon movie that gets up and walks away. There are rattles and creaks everywhere.

I'm pretty sure the Crown amp has a built in non-defeatable high pass at 18 hz or so.

Pretty nasty looking 50Hz room null.

Did you test other room positions before deciding on the current location?

How are the drivers wired? A bit tricky to get equal power to all the drivers when 6 are being used.

The voice coils are in parallel with 3 speakers in series per channel. The manifold is in the only place I could fit it, so I didn't have alot of options. I can adjust my seating position a little and/or add my other subs back in to help if needed. I'm still finishing everything up so this is just preliminary.

The other thing it could be is that the back wave at 50 hz is coming through the bedroom door and cancelling it out. I didn't have it closed at the time, so it could be acting like a really huge ported box.

It would be nice if things worked that way but unfortunately they don't.

Do you have space in the room for 'super chunk' style bass traps?

I do have room now that my boxed subs are no longer in use, I just havn't gotten that far yet. With my living area being so big and open I'm just not sure how to tackle that aspect yet. I plan on putting bass traps in the front corners, the back is open to the kitchen and truly the left side is open to dining and family rooms, with a false arched wall dividing the two rooms..
