Steve nn

So I've already made a post in the PSA sub thread about this, so after a suggest from dominguez1 where he suggested that I start a thread it only seemed fitting to post a thread in the DIY section knowing that Steve loved building DIY subs. So here was my post from the PSA thread. Like I said in my PSA thread its still unconfirmed but I have to think sadly its true.

"So I don't know if I should post this here or not but I figure what the hell. I'm sure a lot of your long time PSA posters will remember fellow forum member Steve nn. He would post here quite often along with a bunch of the diy threads. He didn't own a PSA but had been a long time customer of Tom's since his SVS days. I had a lot of fun back and forth with Steve over posts and pm's, and I know basshead81 did too.

Anyways I haven't see him post since the beginning of April and I hadn't received any pm's from him as well which was a little dis-concerning because we would message a few times a week. So last week in the JTR thread I made a comment in one of my posts that when a regular poster doesn't post for a while you almost start to worry a little bit that something might have happened to them. Someone saw my comment about that post where I had mentioned that I haven't heard from Steve in a while and got back to me today with some sad news.

I don't know the details and I'm sure the forum member that reached out to me does either, but sadly it looks like Steve has passed away. I was really bummed out to get this pm today but was extremely grateful that this forum member reached out too me. I guess the forum member lived close to Steve and actually saw a local craigslist add with a bunch of HT stuff for sale, the forum member did a bunch of research and everything that was coming up for sale was the exact same stuff the Steve had owned, when he talked the guy selling it he had said that it belonged to his uncle Steve that had just passed away. So it wasn't officially confirmed but it would just be way too much of a coincident for it not to be the same Steve. Steve and I had become pretty good buddies over AVS, it's funny I had never met him in person but just chatted over pm's. We'd exchanged photo's of our families and talked about a great deal of things outside of just AVS, I always said that one day I had hoped to meet him in person and always said if he was even out my way that he was more then welcome to stay at my place or just come visit. He had always said the same too me. I would always tease him about being an old man....lol well older then me, as I'm 37 with a young family and he's had older kids.

Its funny that we sit behind our monitors and post on this hobby forum board and over time you really start to almost make friendships with people that you've probably never met before, and if you're lucky enough too you do get to meet some of your local guys and make new friendships. Anyways I just thought I should post and say something in one of the threads that he posted quite often in. Like I said I'm pretty bummed out and now I miss a buddy."

I'm really sad to read this. Steve has helped me through posts on a few of my builds. I know he has helped a ton of people with their builds. He was a very knowledgable guy and was always a friendly poster. Always cordial and calm. He will be missed big time.

Steve answered a lot of my questions about designing the martycube when I got started with flatpacks. I was so much of a noob at that point an he was very patient helping me out. As I learn more I will try to follow his classy lead .

Very sad. His posts were always very positive and stated with class. He will certainly be missed.

I hope indeed his friends/family see this, and realize how much he was appreciated here. If he's like the rest of us, his family/friends probably only see one side of this hobby. Hopefully, this thread will shed a little more light on the other.

Wow, that is a damn shame. I have been wondering why he was so quiet. Back in January we were going to have a contest to see who can make the coolest looking DIY using a umax 12". I don't suppose anyone knew how old he was? Anyway he was always a friendly and helpful guy.

He seemed like a really great guy.

If it wasn't for Steve's willingness to help a new guy I would have probably just moved on and bought something retail. I bet he helped nudge along a number of beginners into the DIY world.

Thanks for posting the information Joe.

Wow, very sad. Steve had been on AVS for a very long time, one of those first names I remember from way back when I was mostly lurking and you guys are right - he was always friendly and positive.

Steve and I would chat a bit about subs. We both were on the same page on a lot of things. One of which was the whole poking fun at the Marty Sub naming of everything. We joked about naming the next pair of subs I was building (at the time, but now built). And now there is an awkward silence with the following:

Oh no, Steve!

I was just thinking of him recently wondering why I have not seen him post lately. We were good friends and known each other for many years. First ran into him over at HTguide and have been friends since. Corresponded with him much. He was such a great guy. Lots of personality and always kept his chin up in the face of adversity. Last I remember he was caring for his parents that were ill. I don't know all the details obviously but I wonder what happened to him?

I can't believe he is gone.

You will be missed and remembered forever, Steve. RIP

Found this thread thanks to Chaluga, before he pointed me to this thread about Steve I looked at all his posts and IM to me to see if I had missed something. Every single one of them was positive and helpful. Never a bad thing to say or negative comment. I can only assume that he was the same in his personal life with friends and family. He will definitely be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. RIP Steve. You will be missed.
