Has anybody "downgraded" to DIYsoundgroup speakers?

I'm wondering what percentage of people here are going from really cheap speakers or maybe even no speakers to DIYsoundgroup offerings, versus people who have quite nice speakers worth a couple thousand dollars switching.

I've only seen a couple people that switched from high end speakers to DIY on this forum. I myself spent about the same on my commercial speakers and my DIY speakers.

well, I just switched from speakers that have a "sweeter/silkier" mid and upper end to 1099s. But upgrade is relative. They were small monitors that were exceptional on the musical side of things but didn't cut it for the big sound I wanted when I went for home theater. So upgrade in the HT impact/compression sense but downgrade in the vocal/upper end of things.

EDIT: other speakers were Focal Utopia/Hiquphon and the others were Usher. Both DIY.

I went from a tekton speaker that was 1k for mains. It was great up to 95dbs but tweeter starting screaming if you went louder. I wanted something that wouldn't worry me about breaking down. My tektons driver was very similar/same as driver in 1099(blue eminence ).

Iv'e gone from Onkyo HTIB, to Polk Monitor 70's, cs2, 40's w/ HSU VTF-15h, and now just finished my 1099 LCR, with plans to go Volt 10 surrounds and 2 SI18's. I don't see myself upgrading for a very long long time.

That's what I said when I got my Monitor 75s and PSW505.
Then I also got a VTF-15H. Two of them actually. Now I have one of them and two variations of the marty.
And now I have three 1099 preorders in my cart waiting for me to click Checkout...

depends on how you define downgrade

I moved from a pair of wharfedale Sapphires to the DIY stuff, also replaced my PB12+ with DIY subs
My dad has a pair of the Fusion 8s which replaced his magnepans

Ah I forgot to clarify that haha. "downgraded" meaning buying less expensive speakers. Assuming the person likes the (cheaper) DIY speakers better than their old speakers (I don't remember ever seeing anyone who disliked the DIY speakers).

I went from 3x Electro-voice ELX112 for LCR (the center is behind an AT screen) to 3x Fusion-12 Tempest, thinking it would be an upgrade. Not so sure it was, the Tempests are more Hi-Fi like than pro-audio like, so not necessarily good for replicating the non-fatiguing slam you get with real cinema sound. But I recently tried plugging all three ports in each Tempest to make them sealed and I'm liking them more for movies now. The F3 is now up around 100Hz according to Unibox, but probably more like 80Hz with room gain (L & R's are in the front corners), so increasing the crossovers in my receiver from 60Hz to 80Hz brings the bass back while mid bass is now much tighter and more movie-theater like. Sub is an SVS PB-13 Ultra.
