The "JohnnySub"

My front corner of my living room could fit a bigger sub but not minimarty size. I wanted better spl in 18-30hz range in my large room. My two micro-cubes are great for nearfield on either side of my couch and serve as end tables.

Lately I saw a couple people who wanted a sub in between cube and mini sizes. Looking at size chart there was a perfect spot in the middle. Thus the "JohnnySub" was born in honoring ltd02 as well.

Is 7.5 ~ cuft at 18.5hz tuning. Here is spl with si18 and 1100 watts

and here is regular cube (red), Johnny (blue) , minimarty (black) with si18 and 1100 watts.

For some minimarty is just too big. I just can't fit minimarty in my corner of livng room without it screaming look at me. I know some are looking for nearfield sub but mini too big as well. Can lay Johnnysub on its side as well.

32" height allows it to fit on a sheet of mdf perfectly. Here is cutlist .

Can someone graph this in winisd for me ?
Exterior Measurement is 2' deep , 25.5" wide and 32" high. 1100 watts with si18 driver. Port is what I need. Rough calculations are 45" long ( might be +/- two inches). Looking for 18hz tune if possible. 19hz is ok too. Port height could be 2" or 2.5" high.

If someone can graph it and confirm port needed I can do cutlist.

Thanks.

I thought there were already a couple 32" variants - I assembled my first one yesterday and will prep for paint next weekend.

I was planning on doing another pair of IXL's... I tried to contact stereo integrity about two weeks ago for a quote for a pair of theirs but never received a response so guess it'll be mach 5 all the way around.

It'll probably be next weekend though before I get my wood cut now buts that's alright, so I may not be the first to build....

I'm sure that someone has built every size out their. I haven't seen a 25.5" wide by 32" high. Wanted to keep the footprint small. Just creating a nice cutlist with drawing makes it easier for some.

LOL I was just thinking about a 8cuft 16hz cabinet. Pretty darn close to this one. Although you have done that tune in the larger cabinets.

Yes I have been modeling the 8cuft enclosures for a while on a single 18 ZV4 and 15 X subwoofers. And now the HST is coming so I was thinking about the enclosure again. Hardest part was coming up with a port that could handle the velocity of the HST/ZV4. I dont mind designing for 30m/s because I wont be ever pushing the subwoofer that hard. Just trying to find a 120hz resonance also.

Either way another fun build thread from you guys.

Just not sure if port height 2" or should be 2.5" and total length to hit 18hz. Si driver.

All I see is 45" and 2-2.5", what is the width 20?"

20 x 2.5 x 45" = 18.76hz
20 x 2 x 45" = 16.88hz

Same width as cube and minimarty . Isn't it 22.5" of port width ?

not sure if the name would better be martysub 8.0

a 2.5" x 44" port and about 10% correction yields about 18.5hz tuning. first port resonance is about 140hz, which is pushing it, but should still work. air speed is good. cone excursion is good.

Dayton 18" with 1100 watts. si 18ht will pretty much be identical.

I knew if I asked you would say name it something else so that's why I didn't ask.

Graph is exactly what I was hoping for. Meets my needs perfectly and I hope a few others as well. I will have the cutlist ready tomorrow.

Thanks again John .

How well would a UM-18 work here?

Would be better suited for minimarty . That driver loves space. It would work, just not at its optimum .

Here is cutlist

Will add everything to post one. Once the first one is built and confirms that it sounds good I will then add this design to martysub FAQ .

I think I am going to use Dayton 18" ho driver. Ive been running the 15" ho driver with 1500 watts and no issues. The 18" with 1500 watts gives me another db.

Would like to put a uxl18 in there but too costly for me.

I like the idea. These could fit perfectly between my center and mains, in addition to give me some extra DB's. Which we all like extra Db's.

How many sheets do you figure these will take? Do you think I can squeeze them onto 3 sheets?

You can get 6. 32" pieces out of one. Which cover sides , baffle and back. Also port back and rails. Then 1/2 sheet for top and bottom and port bottom and bracing.

3 sheets will make 2 subs. That's why I cut off height at 32".

I'm joining the darkside of bracing. Going to use dowel type like this

Going to use 1 by 1 and glue and toe nail.

looks simple enough but I'll be a few days before I'm there, you definitely gotta make sure your vertical braces are the right length so your top sits down properly.

And I don't know what driver I'm going to be using anymore either the ixl went up again it's now 350, I currently can't cross the border so dayton's are out of the question.... curious how the new mach 5 ftw-lte is gonna model and what the intro pricing is going to be.
