How will this be different from the ftw-21? I might have to add another to my system.

Looks to be a little less powerful, less xmax type driver. Cheaper alternative for those that don't want to pay the full price of the FTW but still want a 21" driver. I don't really know any other details as Mark just said a few weeks ago he had a lot of emails about a cheaper 21, so he decided to offer one. I sent him a message today for some more info.

I'm intrigued, kinda curious if they'd be suitable for ported ? Or do the enclosures need to be too big ?

Interested to see more info. Would love to add a serious bit of displacement to my theatre. I'm not sure I have a place to put it though.

fattykid, I really don't know anything more about the new 21's than whats listed on his site, so I couldn't tell you. Hopefully this week we get some more info.

Chrapladm, I'm not sure but it would be pretty sweet to have a 21" PR, although I don't think PR's sell very well based on
what I've seen from other company's. They usually just stop producing them at some point lol. It's a fair question and I'll shoot Mark this thread and maybe he can answer the questions himself.

Every time I have used my FTW 21 in the past I needed a clean 4000watt potential amp. Anything less sounded fine but not as good to me. But to each their own.

I think he's got the prototype almost made (if not already) he sent me an email on Monday to let me borrow it to pound on it, since he's know's I'll give it the real world test LOL But I'm not sure I'll have time to build a box in the next week or so, as I don't have an extra 21" box around.

I chatted with him a little and that's about the same thing he told me, anyway I'm awaiting your thoughts on it and especially interested in getting some final numbers on it.

Did he give any specs on it? Or recommend enclosure type/size. Power handling?

He must have something if he's sending you one to beat on.

Future proof?

So I'm about ready to start build my boxes (going to be doing duals) but still waiting to hear about this 21 option. Where my system currently resides I've decided to build ported with some very restrictive measurements but could fit a 21 (LTE) or an 18 (IXL). I'm military so I move more often than most so the biggest subs I can fit today might not be the biggest I can fit tomorrow.

In the sense of future proofing, I realize a 21 would much prefer a bigger cab (like 25 ft^3) but would you all deal with the potential degradation in performance now for the possibility of future output?

Attached is both the IXL 18 (red) and FTW 21 (blue) modeled in the exact same box parameters, (8.1 ft^3 after port bracing/driver, kept the port length the same as well tho could vary it a little) I realize the LTE might model very differently but in the short term I put 1000W in the FTW and limited it excursion to 22mm (hopefully approximating the reduced capabilities that might go into the LTE).

I'm kinda assuming that the fact its going to be a new product and group buy that the price/performance is going to be awesome for those of us that pick up the first ones.

I'd definitely go with the 18 due to lower extension. I don't think either of those go nearly deep enough for home theater use considering you are comparing an 18 to a 21, but if you are limited to those 2 designs, I'd take extension over headroom considering both can achieve reference levels.

seems like you might do better with the uxl. it works well in a 8 cubic footer tuned to around 17-18hz. good balance of performance and portability...

You've also got to remember that the FTW needs a pretty big box for ported, like 14CF big lol. A 8CF box will not do the driver justice, like you can see in your sims, the 18's would be better bets as Steve and LTD pointed out in a box that size.
I can't say I've seen any builds of FTW's in ported boxes.
