Hey guys, long time lurker in the forums and reading a lot about sub building, speakers, and different designs.
I had 4 si ht18s ready to go and now I have 2 si ht24s to play with. Just ordered an inuke dsp6000 for the subs.
they are going to be in the attic above my 14X14 teenagers hang out room/home theater area. I can't wait. Hey go big or go home huh.
I have been to the last two gtgs and beasts house and I am now wading into the deep waters of destructive but blissful bass. I am so honored to have beast just down the street and Nick close as well.
Ill keep updates coming as they are available.
I'm in my office downstairs as I write this. There is nothing that beats the house shaking, quaking, and moaning and realizing its your wife and daughter upstairs rocking in the HT, and then hearing them giggle through the movie, especially after a crazy shutter runs through the house. Hum, this must be what my wife hears when I'm up there. I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo blessed.
Even better, when I went upstairs at the end of the movie my lovely bride of 21 years looked at me with her loving eyes and beautiful smile and asked me something that made a tear come to my eye. She said, "My darling, sweety do you want to back it up and watch your favorite bass scene in TMNT"? I said, uh, yes please.
Already did. I started a thread on it last week. Thanks though it was awesome.
I did just find a breaking point with my system. I had everything in a power conditioner and we were watching flight of the phionex and it was crazy loud and all the lights on the amp lit up and it tripped the power conditioner. Ill never listen to it that loud again anyway. my son was showing off for his friend.
A tip for next time you post up some REW graphs though, change your scale so it's log scale, also there's no need to sweep up to 200hz if you're crossing the subs over around 80hz. Also, I'd adjust your y-axis so its ~5db's per bar. No need to see -db's so zoom in it will make thing a little clearer.
Wow, nice response curve! And that's without EQ on the amplifier end. Looks to be about 118 dB at 9 Hz. Do some more tinkering with different measurement spots and see how that node at 67-70 Hz looks. But other than the latter the measurement looks great for two drivers in a DO IB install!
I discussed some options with SF last night and think we can get that looking a little better. Certainly a room mode at 70hz but with this being an IB, can't move the sub to fix it. The dip at 110hz can likely be somewhat mitigated by adjusting the distance settings between the mains and subs. I believe the cross was at 100hz, so sliding that to 80 or even 110 might also fix that situation as well.
MK, as my mother would always say, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

Beast, you have been riding me lately, what's up? How is that not nice, I was just pointing out that is not flat for the guys who think so. It is hard to get flat without EQ unless you have subs all over the room to smooth things out. Distance settings, delay settings, maybe moving the LP a little can I have positive effects on the response when the subs are permanent which I have as well.
What I said was true and PI said it first but you responded to me instead which I find weird. All he showed was a graph with no questions. I was responding to the suggestions that is was flat which typically means don't touch it. If you want to help your friend the first thing is to get a graph with similar settings as the mob so we can look at it better. A DIY build is always welcomed and appreciated but when people are saying great flat graph a flat graph is usually considered +/- 3 dB for the intended range. It is hard to tell from a 10 dB scale. YPAO is ok but I prefer not to use it. What is the raw response without YPAO? Can the seats be moved? Sometimes all it takes is inches.
I am working with SF, who is brand spankin' new to REW on how to post the "Standard" graph, as well as how to post pics and whatnot. The response needs some love, but it's nothing we can't work out over an evening of tweaking a couple of different things. I am confident we can get it much closer and will post the results
See there? The last part of your post had good suggestions I agree it isn't flat, but gimme a little time with it and we shall see what the results show!
~Take multiple sweeps around the room
~adjust seating if conceivable
~Look at potential room treatments/traps
~waterfall and ETC graphs
~YPAO before and after
Well, look at post 175. I am asking for help and what this grap is telling me so I can improve things. Im not concerned with impressing anyone but to make my theater sound great.
I was just trying to figure out how to use this thing and know what to do. I appreciate you guys who know and would help.
Beast helped me a lot and ive been playing with some things.
I do know one thing though. I dont have to wonder now if i have response down to 5hz. I used the tone generator to put 3 sec tones and now i know what frequencies im dealing with by whats happening in the room.
I have a way to go. Seating is being finalizes and were working on finishing things up.
Again, i do appreciate constructive help as hopefully others will see it and not make my mistakes.

No ill will at all, you are far ahead of the curve with twin 24's in an IB! If you are able to move the seats forward or back a little I would place the mic at different locations to see if that null gets smoothed out a little. If not, then sometimes just a little delay settings on the sub can smooth things out. I would try at least 3 different locations if possible but change the graph to 63 to 105 or whatever makes it a 5 dB scale on the vertical or y axis on the left. Then make sure the bottom scale shows 3-120hz in, I think, a log scale. Typically the rolloff from under 20hz is either the mic, the amp, processor, or any combination as we know it is not the drivers in a typical room with gain. This is where the LT comes into play if you feel you need it. Try it, if you don't see it being any different then at least you tried. I have found the LT always seems to get rid if the need to run the LFE hot, well, sometimes.
Can you take a sweep at all seating positions? This will help us determine if that null is going to mean that another "filling" sub is required.
If I recall correctly, because it has been a while, your room is on the second floor in your house. With the IB subs in your attic, do you get any vibrations on the floor? I am willing to bet that you are because I have a suspended floor too and that thing is sensitive to any bass and acts like a trampoline.
Woah, sorry if I my post was taken a little too seriously. I know I'm one of the least knowledgeable persons in this thread, but I feel there were two parts overlooked after that flat part. No eq/ room corrections. It looks like a cancellation in the 65 region, which should be able to be corrected with bass traps, right? And eq should flatten the rest, right? And he is then flat (ish, not perfect for this forum, but the subwoofer forum great enough to check your pants) from single digits to 100? Right?
That seems pretty awesome to me.
