Stonehenge Ottoman??

This looks like a ready made ottoman build...

30" x30" x 16" deep

So final height could be around 20 inches... Maybe a little high but not bad...

could it be that simple?

That is the exact measurements that would fit my space, I would be very interested in this build.

Obviously this would be downfacing...

WTF am I thinking ha!

I have 2 jtr captivators in a 15x17x10 (ish) room but it's shaped SOOOO WEIRD that I think a nearfeild sub would be nice.... OR put the caps behind the couch, ottoman in front and give my organs a massage

If I did this would need to be a lower power driver... just running out of power from the grid ha

Goon,

Yeah, it can be that simple. The specs you quoted are pretty much size of my coffee table sub (in my sig ) which could be an ottoman just by finishing the top in a different way.

I actually though of using the stonehenge enclosure but the price of the enclosure plus shipping, killed it for me. ( im way out in CA )

This might need to happen...

So the hs18 from si needs some sanding (of the box) to fit in the Stonehenge?

Would the pe ho or ultimax be better?

If I build this it has to keep up with 2 captivators.... and will have lower power.

keeping up with a captivator is no small feat. uxl with 2kw may get you close.

Isn't the middle of the room a poor place to put a sub ?

No. Might solve a lot of response issues.

The Stonehenge enclosure at 5.4 ft3 isn't big enough for the Ultimax driver.

Cool idea though. Were you thinking of just adding 4 feet to the driver side of the Stonehenge so that it's down-facing? What were you thinking as far as finishing the enclosure to make it ottoman like?

One problem I've always encountered when dealing with a piece of electronics not near a wall is where to run all the wires to make it look good.

Yup down facing... Wires I dont care. The room is setup with an area rug that is in a good place for this. Should be just 1 small hole.

Finishing... Dunno. I am not so crafty or so picky... Might try to find parts I can retrofit to cover it. Maybe paint the sides and cushion on top for now.

Have not thought it through yet, wanted to see if it was feasible or a bad idea first but looks like it can work so may plan it out.

since you said your not picky or crafty...and want simpler solution.....

perhaps one of these placed on top of the enclosure for your your feet. You could use some some velcro strips on top of the enclosure, and perhaps sew a few strips onto the bottom of the pillow to keep it from sliding around.

And yes, this a "dog bed" before anyone ask, but in the comedic spirit of my niece in first grade, goonstoper did say he wanted an ottoman subWOOFer

Just strugglung with the logistics of calibration.

I have limited space to put subs and 2 channels in audy xt32 so the ottoman would have to pair with the closest cap on one channel.

Almost considering putting out feelers on 1 cap and building 3 si ht18 stone henge. Put 2 behind the seat and one ad an ottoman.

Selling big subs can be a losing battle though...

Maybe just put one of the cap woofers in a stonehenge?

Goon, I think your having a bit of bass paralysis....

I think you need to start at the beginning for a second.....before you start selling your cap, or taking the woofers out of your cap ( bad idea in my opinion ). The beginning is here.....what are you trying to achieve? Is it more spl, better extension, better response...etc? Answer that definitively and work backwards from there.

Good point... I tend to go nuts...

Well ideally freeing up space would be great.

Main point was just to have another woofer to smooth things out. Also I don't have a circuit that can give the caps the power they want so more volume would be nice. I know they are more than enough but not able to get everything out of them. Putting another woofer on another circuit (and a more efficient woofer) is what I had in mind... now if I could get 2 of them at 1300w or so on one circtuit then the cap would have its own circuit and id just need an amp to drive a true 2k+ watts (if I sold one that is).

Pretty sure someone built an ottoman subwoofer and posted in on AVS, check the master list of subwoofer builds?

Edit: NM, just realized this was a very old thread!

But if anyone was interested...
