Any recommendations for a surround mount for Volt 8s? I need to be able to angle them down just a bit more than the angled enclosure provides as well as rotate towards the MLP. I haven't weighed mine, but based on the DIYSG site it looks like they're around 30 lbs.
Don't worry, they aren't 30lbs. I think a pair completely packaged up with flat packs is 50lbs. Figure a good 5lbs for packaging material and I'd guess they come in around 22lbs each.
I've got them installed for my side surrounds (13 lbs each), and they are nice to adjust and seem pretty robust.
Only gripe is the brackets are black, they supply plastic cover to go over the silver adjustment hardware.
I put those on and they rattle, so took them off
When I added my front heights I did angle them down with this bracket
I had (2) pair of these Vogels BEK100 Speaker Brackets, bought 12+ years ago and never used.
They are rated for 25kg/55lbs, and are robust.
.
They are very strong, black steel, and can easily support my 17lb Mini-monitors.
^^^ I looked at those too. They adjust up to 11" which happens to be the outside dimension of the Volt-8. I'm just not sure if there is any wiggle room in that. Do you know if they will do more like 11.25"? I'd have to measure and adjust for coatings on the speakers.
In the event someone else looks into this, I weighed my assembled V-8 built using the slanted flat pack and it weighed in at 19.8 lbs. Give or take depending on your scales. Now I have to decide how to mount these things to my drywall. I'm using double 5/8" mounted to clips and channel, so there are no studs to mount these to.
The flip toggles are damn near bullet proof. You would literally rip out a huge piece of sheetrock before those bolts failed. I will be using them to mount my Volt10's with these brackets.
Well, I've got all six surrounds mounted using the Monoprice mounts linked to above. Unfortunately, I'm not convinced they are suitable for this. I had to really crank down on the bolt that sets the up/down tilt in order to keep the speakers from tilting down. On top of that, I'm not sure the bracket will stay together long term as it seems to be putting a great deal of stress on the rotating joint. I may end up building a french cleat of some kind to replace these with.
If you're using the brackets below their rated weight capacity then it shouldnt be a problem. You can try adding a lock washer so it holds the angle you want.
I'm at about 2/3 the rated weight. Rated for 30 lbs and the assembled speakers are slightly less than 20 lbs. My concern is that there seems to be some slight metal deformation of the bracket. It's not much, but it is enough to notice.
