I've been reading as much as I can regarding the different ways to connect and what to use. My current setup is a slight PSA V1800 clone with a UM18 driver and speakon connection in back. Inuke 3000 (not dsp) and an art clean box pro. RCA from SC-05 receiver to clean box pro ---> xlr out to xlr in on back of Inuke ----> speakon out to the sub.
I know the art box is 20-20 and doesn't go lower and I have no dsp. I can try selling them off or just toss the box out and get something else more appropriate. I like the mic2200 with all of its features for under 100 but not sure if that is anywhere near what the inuke dsp has. Or there's the old school Samson S-Convert which I did find online.
For a ported sub what would be the best setup I'd need?
What is the HPF supposed to help with? I've heard of the mini dsp but i was reading of lack of headroom and can clip. i'd like to be able to have the sub have its full frequency range up from 10hz or mid teens to 80hz . Not sure if the Inukes drop off at 20hz. looking at mine it has the crossover switch on the back LF/HF.
with the inuke 3000, can i get my sub to go down in to 15hz? or am i needing to get something else to accompany it to hit those levels? or upgrade to 3000dsp?
1. your inuke will play just fine down into the teens.
2. in a ported cab, below the tuning point, the driver will tend to flap around a lot (this has to do with it becoming "unloaded"). the high pass filter will simply filter out frequencies below the tuning point of your ported cab so that your driver doesn't get damaged from over excursion.
3. I'm not sure what you were reading about the mini-dsp. any device used for equalization can clip the signal if you put too much boost in and don't adjust the overall level down in order to compensate. for subwoofer duty, setup properly, it will be fine.
4. while the psv1800 would be ok, going with a little larger cab will work a little better with the um18 driver.
Something like the so-called mini-marty may be a good choice: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/155-d...85-dual-mini-marty-build-using-um18-22-s.html
thank you for the explanations on the hpf and mini dsp. helps to understand the finer details. i do love those mini's but i don't have a garage or space to even work on stuff like that nor the tools.
