The upload thing I use has default limit of 256M (https://github.com/enyo/dropzone/wik...-not-uploading) so that explains that. Is about 1GB the typical file size? I will get a patch uploaded when I get a chance (will be a day or two).

If you use the exe, it is running locally. The only UI is via a web browser through if that is what you mean.

yeah the size is usually that big especially with 7.1 movies that are 2 hours.

what i was trying to say is that with SpecLab i load the files and it doesn't have to be uploaded anywhere. with the upload limit of github can it be bypassed with the program doing everything locally?.

It isn't uploading the file anywhere at all except for local hard drive. The app has a browser based ui but does not talk to anything else or send any data anywhere outside your own network.

By default, it will put the files you upload in a directory in your user home (c:\Users\PC\.vibe\data in your case by the looks of it). I could change this so it looks in some existing directory for files though and combining that with auto loading anything dropped in that directory would reduce your workload I suppose even better would automatically generating a png of the track too.

o i see, i was here thinking the file was being uploaded to be calculated else ware.

yeah those are really good stuff to add if it puts out the same results as speclab then i can see this being a good program to use. why are you doing this for free?

well the main reason is because none of the software I had available did exactly what I wanted so I wrote something myself.

I gave this a quick try anyway and it does work with a 1GB file though I think it would be a bit confusing for you to use as it doesn't give useful feedback as to what is going on. The analysis itself is a bit slower than speclab though not terribly slow and the results are accurate given the fft analysis parameters used. It's not exactly the same as I use a hann window and a different fft length, pretty sure if I changed to use a nuttall window and 2x the fft length then it would look more similar. Anyway the main issue looks like the lack of UI feedback so I'll tweak that before releasing a new version.

I think I have performance at an acceptable level now, about 2.5mins on my laptop to upload & decimate a 1.1GB mono wav (am assuming this is running locally so browser talking to a localhost process). The subsequent analysis of that to turn it into a spectrum view is very quick (subsecond). On my laptop, it takes speclab a bit under a minute to process the same file.

This means a slightly higher up front cost (to decimate the file) but v quick every single time you want to pull up a graph in future. This seems a reasonable tradeoff to me.

I managed to spend a bit more time on this over the weekend, nearly complete now. You can see there are options to upload files and then you can pick various options when analysing including

- start and end time
- (approximate) frequency resolution of the analysis

this means you can simply upload entire tracks (or point the app at an existing library of tracks) and then use this to get graphs of a particular scene from the film using the appropriate timestamps. I will then link to the target curve section, i.e. pick a slice of a film as the basis for a target curve.

I've put a pre pre pre release up at https://github.com/3ll3d00d/vibe/rel.../0.4.0-alpha.1

windows exe only and this exists purely in case anyone (*looks around for @MrGrey * :P) wants to try out the "speclab replacement" feature. I would expect this to work for measurement as well as none of that side of things has changed. The target curve page definitely doesn't work properly in this build.

If anyone does try it then as far as I can see it does work except there is some slightly odd behaviour when uploading a large file. Specifically it will show as uploading then it will appear in another table then it will disappear and then it will come back once the decimation has finished. The easy way to tell if it is actually doing something when the screen says nothing is going on is look at CPU usage on the PC running the application, if it is not caning cpu quite hard (where quite hard means at least 1 core is fully occupied) then something has gone wrong.

You can also look at the log file (by default in %HOMEPATH%\.vibe\analyser.log) and expect to see something like the following which shows that things are happening

Code:
2017-05-18 20:36:56,009 - analyser.upload - INFO - put - handling chunk 1 of 11 for The Admiral Roaring Currents.wav

a test with a movie file. the speed is allot faster but both are fast as hell with only 1-2min or less in speclab but your program is faster without a doubt.

odd. Can you share the file? or tell me how you created it? basically are we talking about a sine wave with a -15dBFS RMS level or -15dBFS peak level?

ok ta, I'll double check how I'm treating the levels. Overall shape looks good though right? My graph has some degree of smoothing btw whereas speclab is strictly "join the dots with straight lines". I can make that tuneable if you like (i.e. I can change my line generation to be a straight line too).

OK awesome. Yes it looks good pretty close. Yes the ability to do that would be nice. Also is there a way to increase the output resolution of the graphs, change the background color etc?

many things are possible, just takes time

when you say the output resolution, you mean when you download it as a png? the graph currently simply scales with the size of the browser window so make the window bigger, you get a bigger graph (and this size is the size of the exported png). Do you want to be able to set some specific size?

yes the ability to set a specific size would be nice because i would like to add some information to the graph if possible . yeah i have the browser window at full screen but the output is still low res compared to the graphs i get from speclab.

this is a -18dBFS RMS, -15dBFS peak sine wave.

as far as I can tell there is simply a fixed 3dB offset between speclab and my numbers which is consistent across all types of content (real world, sine waves, square waves etc) so it seems to be simply a difference in how speclab reports the numbers as opposed to anything substantial.

umm that's unfortunate. i would of liked it to be accurate with speclab.
