Help too many subwoofer choices.

Just did some upgrading to my theater I finished about 3.5 years ago. Anamorphic lens, 2.35 and 16.9 screens and am wanting to upgrade my subs. Currently I have been using 2- Martin Logan Dynamo 700w's in the rear corners. What is recommended? My space is rougly 11.5 x 17.25 8' soffit a little under 9' ceiling height.

Budget? How much space do you want to dedicate to subs? Bigger boxes are more efficient and give more bass. Where do you want to place them in the room?

A basic recommendation would be a pair of Marty type subs with two Dayton UM18 drivers and an NU6000DSP amplifier. Look at the Martysub FAQ thread for some info.

What is your budget and what are your space constraints? Can you build cabs yourself or will you be looking for flatpacks?
My opinion, buy 4 Dayton Ultimax 18"s and a couple of Behringer Inuke 6000DSP amps and call it a day. Build them sealed if you want them small (4-6 cu ft each) or ported if you have the space (6-? cu ft each) and want the extra SPL down low.....until you reach the tuning frequency.

Edit: Rhodesj and I were pretty much typing the same thing at the same time.

Budget about a $1000 for now maybe add more later. As far as placement I have about 23" of width and 44" of length in the back corners. On the screen wall I have 14" of height under the center channel but I plan on raising it. I have about 30" of height to the sides and 60" width. I have the ability and tools to build my own cabs. Should I sell the Dynamos or try to integrate them for midbass punch? I have an umik on order to start testing the room response.

How would 4-V.B.S.S. subwoofers, 1 in each corner, on an Inuke 3000DSP compare to the 2 martin logans?

I don't know anything about the Dynamos or how well they would be able to integrate with some new subs.

$1000 could get you 2 Dayton UM18-22 subs and an INuke600DSP. Would walk all over the subs you have now. How tall are you willing to build the subs?

Either the UM18 or VBSS option could would great. VBSS will likely have more output up top, UM18 will likely have more down low.

Personally, I'd do a sub crawl with the measurement mic and your existing subs, see what kind of response you get, and plan from there. If you want to do 4 subs the VBSS is affordable, or you could add more UM18s in the future. And I'd build custom boxes to fit in the space you have as best possible.

Realistically, two or four 18" subs, whether UM18 or PA460, are going to blow those Dynamos out of the water. I wouldn't really worry about integrating them.

In the back corners I could go as high as the sconces. Up front limited to the height of the speakers but I could lay them down and go from the corner towards the center.

You could fit a Marty cube or maybe a Marty Mini with a UM18-22 in your available spaces. Grab a tape measure and see if the Mini will fit, it would be worth it! MartySub FAQ

How would 2- Mach 5 FTW-LTE 21" sealed subs compare to 2- Ultimax or RSS460HO subs in Marty Cube enclosures? Both run off of an iNuke 6000dsp. I tried Winisd but I don' think I did it right.

New Problem. I haven't been able to sell my Martin Logans so I went with one UM18-22 and a flatpack with a Inuke6000dsp for now. Holy cow does that thing put out. So the new problem is on my projector, Epson 6010 ProCinema. When the bass really hits it is moving the image on the screen and I have to readjust the wheels to recenter the image. How do I stop this?

Get a good mount and or isolation on the mount to prevent the transfer of vibrations......

LOL, the UM18's definitely dig deep & loud. My suggestion is to get another UM18 for the other iNuke 6K channel so you can move things in your neighbor's house...

Seriously, a good mount that's mounted solidly to your ceiling joists will solve your problem. Post pics in the Dedicated HT forum and you'll get many ideas for mounts.

It is mounted to a chief RPA Elite mount. It is bolted through a 2x6 that spans between two ceiling joists and is screwed into them.

Thats a really good mount.....possibly look into isolation or get up there and observe what is happening.....

I am no pro, but what I have read most often is vibrations causing the PJ to vibrated messing with the image, it must be really vibrating to move it out of adjustement. I do not know what model PJ, but that would concern me if it had a bulb in it, might shorten the life of the bulb considerably.

Either way, sounds like something you need to figure out right away.

I built two Ultimax Flatpacks and placed them on the screen wall and have my two Martin Logan Dynamo 700s in the back corners. The Ultimax's are on an inuke 6000dsp what adjustments do I need to make?

Try switching polarity on the subs
