speakers for my shop: what should I build

im sure this topic has been discussed many times before, but one more time couldn't hurt. I'm looking to build four speakers to ceiling mount in my shop. Mostly Music duty with the occasional football, hockey game on TV. The space is 24x36 with 10' ceilings. I guess I'm looking for a speaker to provide more than just "noise". My first instinct was to build four volt6's, but I could do 8's or 10's, or something else entirely. I'd like to keep the budget around a wife friendly $500 (kit price, not all-in price), just a ballpark. I plan on running these off an AVR to keep things simple. Any feedback, experience, etc is appreciated

I think that is a good start. If you decide to get more serious that those can become your surround speakers. You will always be able to use them.

I would buy 4 of the Monoprice 15" Passive PA speakers. @imagic thought highly of them and you can't build anything for that price with better sound.

I'm in the middle of mounting two in my garage this week.

While there may be exceptional value/sound quality ratio with the monoprice PA speakers, buying them wouldn't scratch my itch to build something. Plus, I'm planning to ceiling mount and those look to be a little on the big side. Thanks anyhow for the recommendation

If it was me,

I'd use the Volt 10 which would allow getting decent bass response out of them and gain efficiency. I think you can get them down to 50 or 45Hz reasonably flat with the 10s which should do well for typical music. The kit costs between the 6, 8 and 10 is minimal so the extra 20 to 25 bucks each across the range is not unreasonable.

Good luck with your project and be careful, the rabbit hole is deep.
