Thank you teacher, I have yet to grasp the brilliant pebble from your hand have so much to learn. The tennis balls of a certain type would flex differently at different frequencies to dampen various frequency spikes in the midrange--how did I miss that? The European tennis balls are packaged with a different air type VS conventional tennis balls so impart a more classical tuning in the critical midrange band. I think the European air used in the tennis balls helps the unladen speed of a European swallow.

for some there is a certain combination of words that will destroy you etc.

somewhere out there, on the distant edges of reason, is a "joke" combining the words: airspeed, velocity and swallow,

3 words , reminds me of Hoffman's Iron Law for Subs

which 2 words do I chose . . .?

or can we use all 3?

What's a grasshopper to do . . .?

Didnt diysg basically clone those speakers when elemental designs went under? it even uses the same woofer.

Ive moved away from horns so I no longer use them.

64 base level speakers $10k
28 height speakers $10k,
14 subwoofers $10k
90% of the movie sound coming from the center channel - priceless.

No. Use all 6!

To get the best spread them out to make use of the comb effect, and use Audyssey bass management. And, with Audyssey turn Off their Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Loudness (at least initially). They do GOOD things, but you need to understand what each does, and your sources must be SMPTE calibrated - and only digitally connected DVDs and BlueRay movies are (although you can do the same to your audio files using ReplayGain).

so I got everything going and dialed in. sound output is way more than I could ever use. my subs are at -8 on the receiver

BUT ........ I cant get over the non symmetry of one dual 18 box one one side and the other side only having a small 12" box .

Obvious fix would be to add a second box of dual 18s.

Then Id be getting close to half of uniquepattern's output

hmmmmmmm

Wellllll you know rule number 1 in the AVS Forums:

When in doubt more speakers, especially woofers, is ALWAYS the answer.

MOAR BASS IS ALLWAYS BETTER!!!!!1111

funny enough is with 4 18s and 4 12s, on avs forum that would still be baby steps. as in minor leagues, backwoods stuff

You are so very RIGHT lol. I came here previously years ago when I bought my Vizio 4k tv. I have branched out into the other areas specifically when i decided to do my 5.2 system. I learned VERY quickly that I am not even in the same universe as probably %60+ of the members here. I was never going to be playing with the big dogs I knew that but I had no idea how low on the totem pole i was until I started seeing peoples recommendations. And the fact that it seems every other person here has a dedicated home theater in their house lol. Or hell even the amount of speakers will put in a room the size of my living room, it just boggled my mind. Granted if I could afford it I would be doing the same thing I am sure. Hell I have even gone from just buying 1 5.1 speaker set and new AVR, to already looking at spending $600 or $800 to replace my front L&R when I spent like $325 for ALL of the speakers LMAO I'm falling down the hole

For most people a single 12" sub from best buy is epic...

...on AVS 8x 18's is a starter setup...

spent hours moving all the subs around this weekend. nothing helped.

in the end what worked was moving the listening position ( couch)

new unequalized response all subs going

I do like that the spl at 10hz is equal to the spl at 80hz

I know this thread has been fun, but on a more SERIOUS note,

please note that very loud protracted bass, can cause permanent hearing damage.

please use the bass loudness knob RESPONSIBLY.

You are correct of course, keep turning it up until you ALMOST need a diaper, if your bass made you poo yourself you may have to turned it up a little to much. But you are correct, especially since bass frequencies tend to not "sound" as loud at similar decibel levels as higher frequencies. OF course I say that and I spent most of a 2 hour drum and bass show standing, no practically leaning up against a 12 foot tall stack of bass-bins so I could get a good position to watch the DJ LOL.

so now that Im over the loudness of the bass, what do more subs behave like at "reference"? (115db)

150 total watts to reach reference. the amplifiers are barely even working. I think I wasted the $350 I spent on a nu6000. oh well.

how about woofer excursion?

4 mm at reference.again barely even working. that makes for some CLEAN output
