Remember you got Dr. Dogs meet at the end of May.

Art mentioned having something after you finish with his theater. Maybe all of you guys want to coordinate.

Current projector - JVC RS25 and Marantz VP15S1
Future projector - pre-ordered new JVC from AVScience

SE Michigan GTG

I've had a lot of gtg meets at my house and know what goes into these (the cost). There's lots of planning on Brian's end that he's going to have to plan for and then the cost to have a GTG. It doesn't seem like much when your thinking about what your going to need but it adds up. what he's most likely planning would be water, pop, beer, appetizers, food all the condiments, paper plates plastic forks and spoons etc etc. This all adds up. Having 25+ guys at my house last time ends up being in the 200-300 dollar range. I think if everyone who shows up throws 10 dollars into a pot for Brain to help absorb some of the cost would be a very nice gesture and bring something like a appetizer , beer what ever it all helps.
When the wife sees that everyone pitched in and was respectful of his home there will be more gtg meets Im sure.
I've personally never had any problems but this needs to be said. All the guys have been really cool and I talk to a lot of them now all the time. I'm sure it's going to be the same at this meet to.

Thanks Mike. Yeah we will have to start talking food once we get closer. I will probably make some stuff and also have somethings catered.

Brian, I have no problem helping out any way you need help. I can also bring a denon x-3000 to power our upstairs listening setup, if you hadn't had a plan yet for that. I'd even bring my new xpa-3 for more power. Let me know what we will need. I can bring an appetizer as well. These gtgs are awesome and I definitely want to contribute.

Cool thanks. The XPA-3 would work great. I could also put my a-300 up there and put my rear atmos back on the avr. There may be a beefy Marantz avr available as well. I think we want plenty of power available for whatever speakers someone wants to bring especially since they will most likely be running full range. Also need to decide what sources everyone prefers for that set up. CD player, Spotify/Tidal, turntable......all of the above?

This is the first post I have made and have been lurking in the background for two years now. This GTG is the motivation I needed to start posting. I plan to attend and as others have suggested I think having everyone throw in a ten or twenty is a good idea. As I am still getting started on this hobby I don't really have any significant equipment to bring but would be delighted to bring beer, maybe even a homebrew if I have any available. I did not vote as I can probably make any date.

Hello pnhayden. Glad you can make it. Please dont feel like you have to bring something with you. Beer would be great. Homebrew would be great to. I have brewed a few batches in the past but swore I would never clean another bottle so until I get a keg setup, its store bought for me! Of course the wife says "you dont need all that beer anyway!"

If anyone wants to bring a dish or pitch in $5 or $10 thats cool but also not mandatory.

"Motivating" is definitely a word I would use to describe any GTG I have been to. Heck even visiting someone else's setup is motivation. This is usually followed by spending a bunch of money at DIYSoundgroup.com and/or Parts-Express.com

I plan on having a get together this coming June and want to get an idea of what weekend would work best for most people interested in coming.

I hope that this can be a big, no, HUGE GTG. The wife and kids will be away so there is no curfew and no rules

As of right now, I will of course have my theater available and I also will have a two channel setup upstairs on the other end of the house for people to listen to as well. I can also have a small pc speaker setup in my office.

Everyone that wants to come is welcome. You guys know that this is more than just about the material and gear. Its great just meeting fellow members and talking about our favorite hobby. I have plenty of space and there will be lots of food and beverages available.

It would be great if some of the heavy hitters of the AVS world could come. @imagic @Mark Seaton @jsalk @Erich H @mtg90 @tuxedocivic @LTD02

I'm sure I am leaving people out. You guys, don't be shy! Come hang out with The Michigan crew and have a great time!
I doubt @LTD02 makes it..Im sure he is at his "undisclosed location" (aka..Area 51) in his white trench coat working on formulas for the space time continuum and time travel formulas...

Thanks for putting this together. As of right now all dates work, so I won't vote to skew anything. You're only 45 minutes from Royal Oak.

I could bring my sealed UM18 and may figure out motivation to build a full marty by then with my 2nd UM18. Though I'm guessing those are pretty boring to people on this forum by now.

My boombox is fun, if not the highest fidelity thing you've ever heard (kidding).

The thing on the right of the boombox was my attempt at a light and powerful mono boombox, but it is a total failure.

I have no problem pitching in $10 and bringing some beer.

Cheers,
Jesse

Thanks Jesse. Thank you for The offer. I think its best to not use subs upstairs to keep the neighbors happy. There is plenty of bass in the theater and we can crank it as loud as we want down there.

Just checked my calendar and I'll be out of town for a wedding the weekend of June 10th, so that weekend won't work for me. The last two weekends, however, should generally be fine.

Finally a GTG I can make! I'll be coming from Toronto. If anyone in the GTA wants to carpool, send me a PM.

I can make any of the weekends.

I can bring a non DIYSG speaker. I call it the Reference Mini. It is my cost no object effort to build the best sounding small speaker possible using the best drivers available, advanced DSP work, and no BS, real speaker design science. Essentially it performs just like a very high end home audio style speaker with no sacrifices in sound quality, bass, dynamics, or even maximum SPL, but in a speaker the size of a football. Of course, Ricci gave me a hand in the bass area of this speaker. You know it's going to be good! I'd be interested to see how it hangs with pro audio style speakers.

Ricci, this is your chance to hear this speaker that you've been waiting so long to hear. Come!

Did you ever finish the build thread. I saw this on diy audio but it was never finished. I'd be interested in seeing this if only because your original design goals were pretty ambitious.
