using different speakers in old cabinets

i have nht classic 4 and classic 3 speakers and the woofers are showing signs of dry rot. my plan is to replace them with a better speaker that places a higher emphasis on home theater than music. also wanted to possibly replace the subwoofer in the classic 4's with daytons powered by behringer amplifier. does any of this sound like a good idea or should i just replace everything with what it came with from the factory. thanks for the help

Honestly, I have to ask. Why are they dry rotting? Those aren't old speakers. And, NHT is good stuff. I have speakers that are decades older with no rot. So, what's the story?

Environmental? Do you live in a desert area? I had a whole NHT Classic theater years ago. I also craved a system more geared towards HT. If I knew then what I know now, I would have built my own speakers. This is what I recommend to you.

I'd upgrade. To really help we would need a budget and more info about your setup. Listening habits (volume, room size, etc).

Replacing the drivers may be non-trivial. Finding ones that fit the existing cabinet without heavy modification can be a challenge, and then it's often necessary to redesign the crossover as a different driver will likely have different response.

How old are the speakers? Dry rot on surrounds isn't really that common on modern-built drivers...

They're probably less than 15 years old. I bought mine in 2001 or 2002. I think he has the newer ones.

Typed on a tiny keyboard, excuse any typos

speakers were purchased around 2005 i'd guess. not all of them have dry rot but the center and both rear do. room is 1300 square foot A - frame house with roughly a 30 foot ceiling.

budget wise, im trying to keep it under $2500. my plan is to just replace the subwoofer, lower mid range 6.5" anodized aluminum cone and keep the tweeter and midrange. (not sure if that makes any sense)

heres some information on found on the classic 4 that i dont know how to use because im not smart:
System Type: Tower speaker
Configuration: 4-way bass reflex
Woofer: 1 x 10" anodized aluminum cone woofer
Lower Midrange: 1 x 6.5" anodized aluminum cone, long throw design
Midrange: 2" anodized aluminum dome midrange
Tweeter: 3/4" anodized aluminum dome tweeter
Frequency Response: 27Hz - 20kHz
Crossover Frequency: 125Hz, 800Hz, 3.2kHz
Crossover Slopes: 12dB LP, 12dB HP 12dB LP, 12dB HP, 18dB LP, 18dB HP
Sensitivity: 86dB (2.83v@1m)
Impedance: 6 ohms nominal

my current subwoofer is an epik conquest powered by behringer inuke3000dsp. ideally, the subwoofer in the classic 4 i want for midrange bass. again, thanks for any and all help

Can you get direct replacement drivers from the company ?

I am sure that would be ideal, or even recomended replacements......?
