A Vulgar Display of Nearfield Power 6-15's Slot Ported at 12.86 HZ.

The Plan for this build is to have 6-15's nearfield slot ported about 1 inch away from my back and butt. I first started out with 4-12's nearfield then moved up to 8-12's sealed nearfield then the last build was 4-15's sealed nearfield and the bass was improved in each build. Now that I have 6-15 inch drivers which are 15'' Legacy Xtreme xd drivers I got from Parts Express when they had a buy out I can complete what I was thinking up.

The Plan is to have 2 boxes ''the wedge 2 box'' which will be a perfect fit to the shape of any Home Theater room chair. These will be slot ported to 12.86 hz and each box will be 10 cubic ft. The slot ports will be on the bottom facing the back of my chair. These boxes will take up every last inch of room I have back there lol.

The slot port is 2 inches wide with no divider down the middle and 48 inches long to help keep the air port velocity down. The amps that will be powering these subs are 3 inuke 3,000 dsp amps and all three will be bridged to power all 6 subs.

The paint I will use is duratex to finish these and a few coats of primer before hand.

Here's a few charts to show how these drivers look with the rest of my subs which a 4-21's slot ported to 15.5 hz.

Will these cover the same range as your front subs or are you going to low pass them differently?

My plan is to have these the same range as the front subs. I've played around with different ranges like 35-80hz and so on but I personally like covering 10-80 hz. the best nearfield anddoesn't seem distracting to me like this. I'll do the same test once this build is done and go from there. This box is a little hard to build having the slot port in front but I'm sure I'll work through it. I'm excited to finally have a ported box nearfield instead of sealed!

On another note since they were buy out drivers I modeled the um18-22 and the new HT18V2 sub for this box and it will work out with the same size port. All I'll need to do is cut the hole bigger for the driver and install it. I tried to future proof this build the best I can in case I blow a driver.

After this build there has to be a way to infinite baffle the entire house to the theater

I was fortunate enough to get a demo of the 4 sealed Legacy's which was fantastically awesome and I can only imagine putting those bombs into 10cft ported boxes. I have them in 4cfters and they are monsters just like that. The high Le in these drivers should go a long way towards creating a major tactile earthquake, I know they have a bit of a rising response which is perfect for this purpose.

Good luck, not that you'll need it. Well maybe stuffing those into that back row will be a challenge. You sure the risers are up to the challenge....

A Vulgar Display of Nearfield Power 6-15's Slot Ported at 12.86 HZ.

My first nearfield to the latest nearfield setup and where this is all going.
The driver being used in his build 6-15's

The first nearfield setup 4-12" infinity 1260's

2nd nearfield setup 8-12" infinity's 4-1260's/4-1262's 8 total sealed

3rd nearfield setup 4-15's sealed same driver as this build.
uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170524/331a9c22dbe54e772ebffeffe5402790.png[/IMG]

The 3rd nearfield setup had more low bass and the same amount of midbass so it was a win win for that install. Now that I'm doing 6 of these drivers ported I will gain a lot more bass and headroom.

Behind the screen up front as seen before.

That looks like a nice massage system. I hope all is well.

Isn't the port configuration using that narrow a dimension (2") with a long 48" dimension causing a lot of flow issues? I thought the rule of thumb was to have at least 1" per 12" LxW.

I hope you have another GTG so I can get ideas for a more finished theater when I upgrade houses next summer.

I like what your doing here and am considering something similar. Will your bass modules make tuning the room easier or harder? How much of the bass "feel" would you lose if you were to incorporate those subs (the lower 4) directly into the riser? This would put them ~6" from the back of the seats. For my second row I was thinking putting one sub beneath each seat flush with the riser platform. It would look something like this with the dotted line being sub locations;

I wanted to make the port wider to at least 2.5-3 inches to help with the port velocity but due to the room I have behind my seats I couldn't go that big and the only way to fit 3-15's in a box was the way I have the port planned out. I taped the box out on the ground to and tried every different way so basically the port is on one side of the box and and runs along the back side of it. Once I get further along it will all make better sense.

This is another reason why I have such a low tune to the box I need to get the air port velocity down and making it longer helped...hopefully it won't make things worse.

Are there any subs available today that are comparable to those Legacy's? Man those things are beefy. Very nice.
