I am planning on being there. I need to figure out when my stupid outage starts because that might interfere. Sick day for me if not! If the 1099s aren't sold I can bring them. I can also bring the Overnight Sensation towers if we want a baby set of speakers to hear!

Phil bring them by those speakers are sweet man. They sounded good at your house when I heard them. We can run some sweeps on them like your saying. Let me know what the meat cost to I'll pay you for it.

Alright alright!! When we get close to the date and have a (more) firm number of those attending, I'll figure it out. This past weekend I fed 6 people with a $17 pork butt, and still had a little leftover.

I'm not sure you've heard the Klipsch Chorus ii's -- I think my father in law picked them up from a guy liquidating assets to pay a gambling bill. He picked up the Klipsch pair, a 10" sub, and amp for like $800 back in the 95. I'm curious what their freq response is and if any component are in need of an upgrade.

There's an outside chance I will still have 2 Dayton 460HO 18" subs in like-new condition -- Sale pending -- If I still have them I'll probably bring those by as well.

Lots of familar screen names in here. Just can't wait to have my mind melted by your HT system Mike!!

BTW I'm in I'll certainly have a pair of JBL G-734s in tow maybe some other neat JBL speakers also. My setup is now completely JBL speaker wise. I also could bring a JBL 4647 if someone was interested in hearing it. I should have 3 JBL 2152Hs by then also.

Of course I have the JBL 8340s as well. Rest of my speakers will be mounted or too big to move easily.

Thanks!

It's nice sometimes to put a face to a user name. I think it makes people feel more comfortable with the situation and once everyone meets in person just like when you guys out in Michigan have GTG meet you then realize everyone is just like your next door neighbor or buddy you've known for a while.

For anyone reading this I posted a video of myself in the first post talking about the GTG I'll add more each week to keep everyone updated.

I see my name is on the list, but just wanted to confirm in person. I will be there.

Mike if you want to take measurement of speakers and get an accurate measurement of their response without the room we should use something that allows gating, instead of REW. I have two options on my laptop, but one of them is free so you could download it on your laptop and we could just use that. Also need to make sure they are in the middle of a room and off the floor, if possible. That measurement I sent you of my left speaker gated was only good down to 1.5khz in situ.

I can bring my laptop with Tidal and the tidal app installed. Through HDMI you can pass 24 bit-96khz master recordings. Easier than bringing disks or a hard drive. I know how much everyone wants to listen to Gregorian chanting recorded by 2L in high definition.

If you want me to bring anything other than food let me know.

I'd like to see and hear the 8340's myself. They show up on ebay, reverb, etc. cheap and sometimes I see bankruptcy sales for theaters that include whole lots. I've been reluctant to buy them sight unseen. I've always disliked the 8330 and 8330a, they sound bright and audibly compress.

Whats the condition of the woofers in your 8340's? I've read that a lot of the older ones need to be re-foamed or even re-coned due to age and abuse.

I'll bring a pair of the 8340's. They are in fine shape, used sure but virtually new...the biggest issue is that people don't take care of them that resell them. So I got lucky getting the 4 I have now. One pair was perfectly taken care of the other pair is about 95% as good of shape as the first two. Problem is with this JBL stuff is that people tend to just leave it wherever including wet/damp hot and cold places rather than keep them in temperature controlled locations.

JBL bang for the buck is massive when buying used. I don't know if I would mess with refoaming on the 8340s as the woofer is pretty cheap by itself.
I had 8330A's and you certainly hear the improvement in sound with the 8340s and I personally believe the lower cross over and wood box allows them to beat out the 8340A's. But don't forget the 8340 is 96db vs the 8330A has only 91db. I averaged about $100 a 8340.

Yeah they certainly are a while different beast, just more common and cheaper.

Ok if you find another pair of 8340 or 8340a's for $100 each please let me know.

For me the interest is more value and form factor. I think the diy options can better the performance but the cost is higher. I really have a hard time diying these days. Never any time and any time doing that is more time I'm not using my theater. Last night I watched a movie with the lights on while I assembled a sub box. That's not my idea of a good time anymore.

Mike:

Anyone bringing a pair of 893's? I'm VERY interested in hearing a pair if there is one to be had around.....

Looking for possible replacements for my Polk LSi 5 channel setup and the 893 has a more appealing size form factor than the 1099's

My Setup | FS: Nothing right now

Unfortunately no one yet that's coming over has the 893's but the dman's bring his 1099's over if Ryan doesn't sell his white custom modified 1099's.

How close in sound are the two? I know the 1099 is larger and I think uses bigger drivers but curious if the sonic signature is fairly consistent....

I'll also toss this out there. I'll bring one of my iNuke NU4-6000 if anyone wants to hear what it sounds like running mains.

I'm using 3 of them to power my 11 channels. I believe they are a low cost solution to getting enough power without breaking the bank to get there. They claim and RMS of 315watts per channel at 8ohms. I figure we could put it though its paces. They MSRP at $350 but can be easily had for less.
