Smart Strip for HT: APC Shoutout

about a year ago I had a 3rd smart strip failure wrt timely /failure to turn off controlled amps, etc.

Last night I noticed that my recent unit, an APC P11GTV, just over a year old now, was failing.

Initially when first installed, it would switch off the units on the controlled outlets in about 7 to 10 seconds.

Last night, I saw that after 5+ hours, controlled units had not switched off . . . .

the master was off but the control function was failing.

After calling APC today,

short version:
They will send me a new one . . . free - it's their lifetime guarantee policy.

I'll be shipping the failing unit back, pre-paid, so they can see what went wrong.

glad I registered the unit . . .

The CR : SPOT ON!

Reminded me of Erich at DIYSG

So I've ordered another for my mancave setup.

It may have seemed at the time that $40 (or so) (Amazon) was a bit over the top , but .. .

Quality doesn't cost: It pays.

Huh, so what did it take? Registered? Any limit on that? I've got a P7GT that's about 2.5 years old and stopped switching the switched outlets. Wouldn't mind a replacement.

@rhodesj

call them!
it was explained to me that at least for my unit, it is a life time warranty item and being registered , while sometimes a pain,

life in the big city . . occasionally pays off

good luck, you'll end up dealing with Schneider Electric, the CR there was stellar

and they haven't asked me to send back the "dead-ish" one yet, i was expecting a prepaid sticker as I'd be able to just shove it in the same box . .

let us know how you do

Interesting to learn from Dan J's review on the Amazon site https://www.amazon.com/product-revie...owViewpoints=0 that in MOV-based protectors, the connected components do a better job at protecting the MOV's than vice-versa, and that series-based protectors are better.
