I read somewhere there is no DVDs that have REAL 7.1 audio, all the changes are done with your processor.

Now HD-DVD on the other hand, can have some ridiculous number of channels of audio (like 14 if I recall correctly)

DVD-A is not a 7.1 format. I believe this is specifically in DVD-A. Maybe I missed something, however.

EDIT: Oh, yeah. I definitely "missed something".

Right. There is only 6.1 actually on the disc.

Also, unless it is DTS-ES Discrete, the sixth channel is encoded (matrixed) into the two surrounds of a 5.1 channel recording. DTS-ES Discrete (vs Matrix) has a sixth channel, as I understand it (which is not well).

Sorry, I've been trying to stay away from the forum during these troubled times. There is way to much ego being thrown around right now.

The disk is only going to be 5.1. I have the capability to go EX (6.1 matrixed), but it is not entirely supported by my other software. Six channels are bad enough, two more and I might go insane.

Once I finish this disk, if anyone wants to donate a grand for new software I would have no problem adding the extra channels to the disk.

Bitt0rrent, huh? Is there anywhere left that is open to everyone? I left that scene a year or so ago when you had to start joining the tracker sites. I am also not sure if this will generate the swarm necessary for decent speeds.

I would definitely agree with newsgroups or BT - I think BT would work. Most broadband connections offer 20 - 30 kbps upload speeds - these are slow for a whole DVD - but if theres ~10 people then it wouldn't be so bad. I know I wouldn't mind leaving my connection open while I'm at work all day.

Usenet, man I haven't messed with that in 12 years.
I'm not knocking it I just thought there was a file size limit?
It was only used for, um.. "picture" trading back in the day.
Would I have to split it up into 40 pieces?
I wonder what kind of newsgroup limitations my current ISP has, never looked.
Can you post a gig or so file?

Well from all the large files I dload, it's usually like 50mb per .rar file limit so yeah you would have to split it alot.

I just checked out my ISP's newsgroup section. I would have been perfect 10 years ago. It would take several days just to upload it. I would have to look into buying a premium account for this.

BT is at the top of the list.

How do you guys feel about FTP?

Tom Danley, has OK'd the use of his fireworks wave on the disk. This will show all of your weak links in a hurry, and kill a few drivers if you don't watch out.

Hey Soho.

This is the same Kingpin from htguide.

Just thought I would give you well deserved props for spending alot of time and resources on this.
From a week of reading a thread on here with enough bashing and negativity to last me a lifetime it's nice to see there are still people who do things just for the sake of helping others.

Cheers brother.(insert a smiley with a beer in his hand here)

I would love that method.

About a week ago, I picked up a 3.8GB DVD iso of Fedora Core 6 for x86_64 off a Stanford University ftp sever in ~1 hour and 10 minutes (~950 kiloBYTES per second, average). Long live university file hosts.

My vote goes to Newsgroups for sure! things have changed a lot from years past!

I download all my SW and games and Music from it....it's a beautiful thing! If you need help, I can show you! just need to use winRAR to rar and split the file, get some PAR files for it, make an NZB to track them, and post them up....viola!

as a second alternative, you can put it on an FTP server and just PM the login/PW to those interested.

What is the standard for warble tones? I'm assuming it's a sine wave, but by how much does the frequency modulate, and at what frequency does the modulation take place?

The DVD demos that have been coming out of another AVS thread have been doing fine going FTP. It takes a couple hours but it's consistent.

My first choice is BT as well. If you do FTP, will you please provide the md5 signature for the file in the same directory?

I have been downloading ISO's for a while.and would say that the best ways I have found are FTP and bit torrent.
If you could put it up on a ftp site......then the people who downloaded it could seed it on bit torrent....that would give you 2 ways to distribute.
I have been doing this with other files. I have a computer that stays online 24/7..so not really a problem for me.

Just my .02

Just chiming in to say that Swithey's FTP is indeed incredibly fast. I've downloaded many gigabytes from him at a very high rate of speed in the past week or so

so wait, is it ready? I thought soho54 said only the 2-channel stuff was ready, and that he is still working on the 5.1 stuff?

That would be no. The 5.1 stuff is still not done. All of the 5.1 content is created, it's just taking awhile to get it sorted out and onto a disk. The 2.0 part has already seen play time on my system.

Things are still moving forward. A few things have slowed down my progress here lately though.

I found that the limitations for icons and menu pages are different for the full screen and wide screen formats, the hard way. The disk has been re-done in a full screen ratio. That was not fun.

I also spent some time on a few other projects that had been sitting around undone for too long.

The corporation I work for is in the process of changing ownership right now, so I am swamped at work right now. I'm pulling crazy hours holding my little ,Inc. together. I trying to keep the fuel moving while re-filing the mountains of paperwork to keep it all by-the-book with about 10 different levels of state(s), local and federal bureaucracy. While keeping the sharks in check.

Anywho, I just wanted to let everyone know this project is still chugging along.

( I really need to finish, because Avia can't do anything I want it to with my new dual subs.)
