I've been piecing together a system (paradigm studio 100 v.4s, 20 v.3s, going to get cc-690, all amped, etc etc) and yeah I'm not surpised I couldve done better going DIY but i'm not much of a DIY person I'm lazy and want to go the easy route and asthetics are important but I really want to maximize my bass especially for parties etc it is crucial to me.

So i'm looking to spend around 1k or so on drivers alone, I've looked at TC, FI, sound splinter, adire, etc and cant just make up my mind.

I want crazy low extension, I want helicopter bass low. And not only do I want insane extension I want it as linear as possible and with forceful SPL levels.

I was considering a 2 enclousre arrangement. Room is pretty big, roughly 3500-4000 cu ft.

I'd be willing to extend my budget as well as it not very important how quickly I complete this project. I'd extend driver budget up to 2k if I was convinced it would be worth it.

The sonotube thing seems kind of cool just not sure how and where I'd get the tubes themselves. I'd rather go with boxes though to make things easier and I would probably get them veneered/finished.

Sounds like a candidate for an IB.

Roger that. Ronination, do you have an attic space or basement space that you can access from your theater room? If you do you can have a CRAZY subwoofer set-up with $2,000 budget. It would be so crazy, you could cause structural damage if you put it full blast... it's not exaggeration.

You can get 8 x FI 18's for that price.

That's 50 liters of displacement................................ !!!

im moving in roughly 1.5 years so an IB set up wouldnt work, i need something thats moveable

(ill be renting a massive mover truck so size isnt a big deal, needs to be able to fit through a standard sized door though. )

I have a contact that knows the owner of FI and says he might be able to build me custom drivers 2.

What FI driver are we referring to though? Q? SSD?

But yeah I want bass so loud and linear people will literally **** themselves when they hear it.

I'm young so I'll still be renting for awhile, I cant really do any crazy home mods like an IB set up atleast not any time soon.

Also if you can could you give me number estimations for said configurations? eg: guesstimates SPL ranges for 5 10 20 hz, etc

If I did 8 FI 18s Id probably have to do 2 huge horizontal enclosures and put one behind the center and one behind the couch/near back wall.

You're not going to get amazingly linear sound at the low end especially with room gain. You will definitely need to invest in an equalizer to account for the room gain, so don't worry too much about how linear it is. It's harder to tell at those lower levels anyways. To make sure it will fit through a door you could try making a subwoofer that acts as a stage for a home theater (like so). This way you could make them really large and keep them skinny enough to fit through a door, and have it be somewhat stylish.

I'd recommend the Behringer DEQ2496 instead.

No more posts from you unless:

A) They include pictures from CES.

B) You have made progress with your sonosubs.

A dual 18 in an LLT / EBS type design would fit in your budget then since IB can't be used.

Oh snap, I didn't think about that!
-4 x FI18SSD ($960)
-Bassis ($600)
-2 x Behringer ep2500 ($600)

About $2160 for all the drivers and amps. About $400 in MDF and other junk.

$2500 total..... ~25L of displacement.

am I going to experience a lot of different characteristics with different styles of enclosures? (the way the subwoofers are arranged and aimed etc)

also are there any drivers that will stomp the 18ssd? I can most likely extend my driver budget a bit. (1500-2kish)

what about 4 soundsplinter RL-s 15s?

or how about the BTL and Q series from FI? I could roll 4 BTL 18s or would you figure the BTL series would sound rather poor since its their SPL series?

Generally speaking, no.

I wouldn't recommend the RL-s'.

I'd go with the Q series from Fi. Scott (at Fi) can actually customize the drivers for you.

Something like this would be a good option:
http://www.htguide.com/forum/showthr...5&page=3&pp=35

4x Rl-p 15", two in each box, with two EP2500's.
