Some of you might have remembered my dual 18" Sound Splinter RL-P LLT build thread as seen here. Well, I sold the RL's and just bought/received 4 Fi IB 18's! BTW Thanks Scott!

Something about 2400 watts and 29 liters of displacement just drew me in. Anyways, as promised I am starting a new build thread. I already bought the wood, primer, glue, paint, etc., basically all the supplies I need. I should start actual construction Monday.

Here's a quick rundown:

4 Fi IB 18's powered by a Crown Audio CE4000. The room is 21' X 15' X ~14' (averaged -vaulted ceiling). Currently, we set the Pio 6010 in the middle of the wall lengthwise (until I figure out how to mount it in the rock fireplace).

The manifold will be located dead center above the TV about 12 ft high. The rear of the room (right of the TV and manifold) is non-existent. It is fully open to the kitchen and breakfast nook. I don't have any EQ of high pass yet and won't until I run a few sweeps.

Here's the manifold design. Some might say it is overkill but what is 4 18's with 2400 watts?? The drivers will face in and be mounted from the inside for a flushed look.

Here is what I have modeled so far using 2400w and 550 cu ft (~15,500L) which is what I have for the rear space and satisfies the 10X Vas suggestion.

BTW for those who ask about the plywood under the Pio...it's temporary because I am scared about setting in on the glass.

Some day builders and people will come to realize that fireplaces are not the center of your room, your HT is. I could see a nice drop down 120" wide screen there.

Good luck on the build. (4) 18's should get you some great bass in your room. I did an IB for a friend with (4) 15" SS drivers and it really brings out the sound track.

Did your wife vacuum this room? Does she do it for a living, because that room looks like it was vacuumed by a pro?

I agree about the fireplace. Especially in Sacramento county (I am right next to the border in El Dorado county) where they are really cutting back and instituting burn days (for air quality). What's the point of a fireplace if you can never use it?

I replied on the cult site. I can't wait to hear your impressions of more or less the same setup I have, but in the ceiling. Really interested to know if it's the physical coupling to the floor that gives me the amount of infransonic information or it's truly just the four 18" woofers displacing that much air!!!

29 Litres of Infinite Baffle Bliss. Oh, and the rest of the setup isn't too shabby either!

I am sure the sub floor does have a good deal to do with it. My towers in the last house could shake the house at certain freqs. Here: NOPE.

Well, unfortunately I won’t have time to cut today. Maybe it will happen Thursday. Anyways, the other day I noticed an error in my measurements and fixed that. I also finished the cut sheet this morning. I have included pics of both.

Well it's been raining since late Wednesday night/Thursday morning..GO FIGURE. No wood cutting for me since I have to drive them to my friends house to use his table saw and router

On a side note I did some in room testing at it looks like I am facing a few issues. I have a BIG room mode I need to work around. It's a big dip around 59hz. I also have a dip around 11.5 hz, and a dip around ~47hz.

I also noticed that there is a big rising from about 7 - 8 hz and down. Is this an issue with the Galaxy cal file or is room gain that significant that low?

How exactly did you figure out you have these room mode problems? Especially if you don't yet have a sub that can go down to 11.5 Hz. Maybe I'm missing something.

I used the dual sealed subs from my wifes car. I measured the subs nearfield and all was okay (obviously lacking low end but still works). Then I measured from various positions around the room to get my findings.

The 59 hz dip was pretty consistent. The other modes came and went depending on location. I imagine the ones that came and went are from either height or from the left wall (since that changed). The 59hz I would assume is from the back wall since that did not change relative to position.

OK. That makes sense. Just curious, did you also move the subs to various locations in the room?

Dealing with room modes and trying to get a flat FR at more than one location in a room (at the same time) seems like really tricky business to me. You might not know what the true room response is until you complete your IB and take more measurements.

Yes, you can do that, I have an IB array (4 Q18s from scott too!!) powered with 2000Watts also

I can shake my house! you are going to love it!! BUT dont play the low end waves too long you can cause structural damage

True. I was taking measurements from the main listening position only. I am pretty sure the "other" listeners could care less about the details and will be blown away by the pure output. I just wanted to take a few quick sweeps to get the most neutral response from the start to minimise EQ'ing.

Have you thought about going to a manifold design? All the reviews from people changing seem to be that they wish they did it sooner between less house shaking, less noise transmitted throughout the home, and overall cleaner sound.

Either way awesome setup! What did your face (or better yet your wifes) look like when you first fired it up?

Im still too happy with it to care about changing it.

The first time I testing things was when I still had contractors outside my house and they thought Jets where flying low over the house, they were amazed and they were outside.

I recently cranked it up with Transformers for my best friend who has never seen my house. He freaked, its really amazing to watch the expression on peoples faces. The helicoper at the first of the movie just shakes the house and we can feel the compression.

sadly, I only enjoy it when the wife isnt home, she isnt a fan of loud ANYTHING.
