Finding the Best Video Game Deals
By Adam Dioria
Strategy for saving cash on video games, including 10 PC and console gems you should grab now...on the cheap.

Every gamer worth his or her salt in collectible trophies or online achievements knows that the holiday season's a double-edged sword. Players traditionally enjoy the benefit of unrivaled selection, with 80 percent of the biz's biggest and best-scoring time wasters (e.g. Fallout 3 and Gears of War 2) released in the year's last three months.

But bankruptcy is also a pressing concern, with more great titles to choose from arriving each and every single week than any poor working stiff could possibly hope to afford. The upshot being that wise dweebs often wait, scrimping and saving every penny they can skim from their stockings for January, when steep discounts let last year's hits be picked up for a song.

Thanks to an even more cutthroat retail environment as of late, free-falling prices from vendors desperate to boost sagging returns ensure savvy enthusiasts can benefit more than ever from big-box merchants' woes. And steeper savings still may be had by those willing to spend just a few minutes browsing the Internet's virtual aisles, scanning sites like, and for instant markdowns, rebates and closeouts. (Tip: Get thee to the adorably titled now for complete daily coverage on the industry's best bargains, i.e. Call of Duty: World at War or Animal Crossing: City Folk for just $30-35.) This being the case, we can't think of a better time to stock up on new ways to kill time in '09, or pick up those last one or two must-see titles you've been waiting on to round out your software collection.

Bearing in mind that steals and deals are available in every category including PC, console and handheld outings, there's never been a more ready excuse to wave your middle finger at the recession. So while you can always ignore the present list entirely and find countless equally engaging options on the cheap, realize.

Click here for a list of 10 games that may have slipped below your radar during the holiday maelstrom which we recommend rushing out to grab ASAP before another enterprising geek beats you to it.
