32 Popular Freestanding Speakers
By Robert Archer
A look at freestanding speakers you will love.

There are some that may pine for the good ol' days, but in the world of electronics, it's almost always best to move forward.

The freestanding speaker category, for instance, demonstrates that the best is yet to come.

Gone are the days of large boxes and fake-looking wood veneers. Manufacturers are coming out with speakers that feature designs that complement the modern home.

Perhaps most importantly, manufacturers are reaching price points that enable consumers of all economic backgrounds to purchase products that align with their musical and design tastes.

Sure, there are a number of big and cumbersome products that look like they're from the 1970s still on the market. Moreover, there are a number of products that carry price tags that are more inline with the good times of 2006 and 2007, but the good news is that big, ugly and expensive is quickly becoming the exception rather than the rule.

Atlantic Technology AT-1
Atlantic Technology first introduced its H-PAS technology at 2009 CEDIA Expo, and now the company is showing the technology in its AT-1 loudspeaker. The small footprint speaker's Hybrid Pressure Acceleration System (H-PAS) is described as a combination of bass reflex, inverse horn and transmission line technologies.

BG Radia FS-520
As a proponent of planar-ribbon transducers, BG Radia has had to be creative in how it adapts its favored technologies into products that meet the demands of today's consumer. The company has done it with the FS-520 loudspeaker.

I dunno, this article just seems really.... RANDOM.

Freestanding basically leaves it open for just about anything. And there's more than it's fair share of picks in the article that are anything BUT popular. In the end stack these "speakers" below together and it just feels like an "everything but the kitchen sink" article.

- Audience ClairAudient LSA
- Bose V-Class V35
- Ton Art Bullet Pod

It is typical of articles from this source. They are listings of products with information mostly drawn directly from the manufacturer's product sheets. Not that the information isn't accurate or, possibly, useful but there is nothing that is not easily available elsewhere. In other words, the lists offer no added value.

Speakers listed are only those that are "popular". Has nothing to do with sound quality as Bose is listed.

Not even that. Some items aren't even speakers, and others are truly one of a kind exotics.
