Thought you guys might want to know, Athanasios created a CRT Home Theater Club on Facebook. It only has four members so far but perhaps y'all might want to join?

FYI, I won't be joining. I use Facebook on occasion to vent, and with two forums and emails, sometimes I need to get away from CRTs in general. If customers see some of my rants on Facebook, I'll definitely come across as less than professional. smile.gif I've had a couple of people try and message me regarding CRT through Facebook, and I don't respond. I spend enough time in front of the computer, and am pretty easily accessible.

I'm trying to wean myself off Facebook anyway, I spend too much time there, so no offence, but you won't see me there. Nice page though, well done.

No problem Curt. I forgot I had that page to be honest. Comes in handy for pic hosting.

Just a word:

To help stop the unnecessary disposal of CRT projectors and help get them get into the hands of those who might actually want to use them, I will be posting any local CRT projector giveaways/sales that I know via Craigslist in my local area.

Please, if you know of any yourself, join our Facebook group and post them. We just had 5 Electrohome Marquees (yes, FIVE!) eek.gif , a Sony D50, and a very nice NEC get disposed of at a local college one of our members noticed. Unfortunately, the posting was too late and we are still weeping from the loss. frown.gif

If we organize this some, it could really help out with people interested in this niche . Thanks guyz!

I have an 8500ac that works and has all the mods plus the low noise lvps that is collecting dust. Wouldnt be hard to purchase some 9 inch tubes and make it a 9500. Heck theres a guy on Curts site selling a set of tubes now for cheep that need new glycol and thats it.

It's all good Curt. He has a nice machine but it's not really what I'm looking for. Still on the hunt smile.gif Not in a big hurry either, I'll find something eventually.

Kblarg, there is a guy down in Newport News who posted a while back that is selling a G70 with tubes he put back in a few years ago. Don't remember the hour count. He wanted $1,000 for it a few months back. Perhaps you could talk to him.

I appreciate the heads up. Looking at videogon it makes me realize I missed out on some killer deals... would have fought somebody over this one: http://cgi.videogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?projcrta&1351533045&&&/Sony-G70

Dang, your neck of the woods too. I can feel myself wincing at that steal too.

Don't worry - at the rate these things are popping up it just takes some time. I was hoping to buy a Barco off a guy in Richmond but that did not pan out the way I wanted. In the end, I turned up very happy with my current Electrohome so just keep at it.

I have a fairly heavily upgraded marquee 9500LC for sale. It is currently hung in my home theater and it is used 2 to 4 times a week for tvs/movies.

I acquired it approximately 5 years ago from a fellow CRT enthusiast and internet forum member. He purchased it from Churchuf (Terry Ferentinos) who was also well known for his knowledge and ability to refurbish and upgrade high end projectors. Google him.

I received the projector and replaced all 3 bellows with original VDC replacements. I will not remember everything that was done to the projector, but here is what I recall:

red and green c element
bellows changed out with late model VDC (new formulation prevents water adsorbtion
mike parker mods
fan mod
HD10 GT17 lenses
1080p full HD moome hdmi card (version 1.3 I believe...think its the latest)

I set the projector up with maximized rasters and use a DaLite High Power screen in a pitch black room. As a result, the contrast has been kept at 63 or below (currently 55)

I am looking to change my theater up and ceiling height makes keeping the crt problematic. so I am hoping a CRT enthusiast would like this projector. It would be a shame to part out a fully functional projector that has a great history.

A $300. G70 isn't really worth fighting for although it was a pretty good deal considering the moome card.
check wit hthis guys, if it's a PGX or better get it

Canada is a little out of my league frown.gif Perhaps our northern brethren might be interested, especially with those worthy mods.

Trust me though, finding a younger whippersnapper to share this hobby with is much more preferable to parting it out. Were I in the same situation, I would rather give something like that to a friend who would enjoy and use it than take it apart.
