Hello folks,

My trusty M8500 decided to let us down on Christmas just as we were about to start our traditional viewing of Die Hard.

The green convergence was way off (horizontally) and the red was off horizontally (and vertically at different times, IIRC). These errors would shift with a bit of vibration, so it must be bad contacts, right? I popped the hood and started shaking boards and cables to find where the intermittent connections were and voila, all was in alignment again. I put the cover back on (which required a bit more force than would be desirable) and the problem returned. Sigh.

So, does this sound like a contact problem to those of you who know what they are doing (unlike myself). If so, then what cable or connector is the likely culprit?

Thanks for any advice!

Regards,
Gary

Hello

Try pulling the control board out an inch and reseating it a few times, this will clean any tarnish off of the pins. Static convergence is handled in the horizontal deflection and vertical deflection boards. Try pulling the HDM out and clean and reseat the pins on the small daughter board. Try reseating the ribbon cable to the vertical board on the rear heat sink, both ends. Take care to reinstall the cable at the board so it is square on the pins

Hi Tim!

Nothing like post sales support. I got this one from you what, 10 or 11 years ago? Maybe more. It has been running great all this time.

Thanks for your help. I should have this straightened out soon!

Regards,
Gary
