"Yo Bob, my 7" NEC CRT will kick that 8oz. bulb things butt..."

That's what Sid keeps saying to Bernie too. We'll all find out when we see Fear at the Pier on Thursday.

It's something to do with a radio show (Don Imus) heard in the US, Steve.
It's also simulcast on cable TV. Those of us who regularly listen to this radio show are anxiously awaiting Fear at the Pier to see what the outcome will be.

OK Now I understand NOT.
You know Bob this is supposed to be a display device thread so were you on another forum you could get a nasty gram from the admin for mentioning radio.

True. But it's on radio only in select markets. I watch it on cable TV with my front projector. :D

Here's an example of what I talked about earlier, Steve. Right now there's a thread in the >$5000 forum. It's a lovefest for the HT1000.
This morning I posted this...
http://*******.com/p6jj

I'll bet if you watch this thread continue not one person will agree with me.
It's because they don't have a clue what I'm talking about. Most of them have not seen anything to compare it to.
And I'm not exagerrating this. It's really pretty bad. That's why I would caution anyone who's thinking of replacing a CRT with it to first see this before making that decision.

Bob
There are less than 700 hours on my XG 1352 so I'm in no rush. I believe the XG is better than the HT1000 (from what I've read and from demos of the Infocus 7200) from a strictly performance standpoint. In my case other factors such as my 7 year old wanting to use the theater constantly are affecting my deciesions.
I'm not married to any PJ. Not an XG, Not a Barco , not DLP, LCD etc but would like to give the new crop of DLP a try. If I can do so w/o losing my shirt on the XG then it is a done deal. I've only made one sale on e-bay and I need to get a couple more smaller sales under my belt before I sell the XG. (unless someone makes me a decent offer from elsewhere)
Then I'll switch to the HT1000 or equiv and give it a try. If I don't like it I'll go back. Trust me on that. Unfortunately I do not have the funds to just by an HT1000 and sell whichever I do not want to keep so I have to do it the hard way.
You seem a little nervous that I may switch to DLP on the basis of your posts.
To be honest your switch to DLP has affected my decieson since you have seen so many CRTs and digitals and the fact that the 3600 came down so fast speaks volumes to me. I have to get my info from somewhere but here in the boonies it's hard to get demos. For gods sake many people here (in Winnipeg) still swear by and buy new low price LCD and threaten me if I mention CRT. Your observations re the HT1000 have been very helpful but are only 1 of the factors in my choice. Whatever happens. I won't hold you responsible. You have given your account of the machines and I thank you for that.
Steve

I'm hated by all camps, Steve.

If I see something I like about digital projectors and make mention of it over here, they don't want to hear that.
If I point out something I don't like about digital projectors over there, it's like "don't rain on our parade" and they hate me too.
It would probably be best just for me to keep my mouth shut and let everyone else believe what they wish to believe. But I just have too big a mouth. It's too hard to close.

I'm putting emphasis on this one thing not to talk you out of wanting one of these. I'm putting emphasis on it only because it's now becoming a major distraction for me. I completely escape into the material because the picture is so good. And then the light goes down and it's like someone just pinched me and says "look at that blob of black in the picture".

It's worse than the X1 because no one had to pinch me. With the continuous rainbow and screendoor I was pretty much distracted all the time. Didn't notice the lack of shadow detail. But now the picture is so good that it's much more noticeable when all of a sudden a dark scene comes on and the picture goes to hell.

No, Bob, you're loved by all camps. It's just that sometimes you "backslide." :)

Bob, I figured it would only be a matter of time until the lack of shadow detail started buggin' you. I didn't say anything just waited until the newness had worn off. It's just something that you can't get used to when you have seen better.

It's also true, John, that the real good dark detail is not something you see with just any CRT projector. It varies widely. And it's really enhanced when your pj has liquid coupled optics and is carefully adjusted.

But I've just discovered that I may have erred and overstated the case a little with the HT1000...

Actually there is depending on where you set the controls for B/C.

0 IRE

B=9
contrast=102

7.5 IRE

B=24 (or 27 can't remember but it's posted on the Theatertek site)
C=99

then the adjust the projector.
