6 months ago, I saw a fantastic CRT based HT (the projector was a Sony G70). Since then, I have been determined to acquire one (I have had an LCD projector for a while).

I have tried many since then and am currently evaluating a Vidikron (and waiting on a promise on a Marquee 8500!).

Along the way, I came across a Sony-1001 (I even posted a few questions about it here). Anyway, trouble was that it wouldn't go beyond 480i and the scan lines were just too bothersome. But, the projector was in a fantastic condition, tubes are mint.

Anyway, while my quest for a "main" HT projector continues, last night, I bought the 1001 as well (for the equivalent of USD 300) and put it up in the bedroom.

The image I am projecting is 72" diagnol (16:9) - and it is simply mersmerising. I would even pretend to compare it with the LCD (with all its HDTV capability) - the scan lines are almost gone, with the image size and what little is visible is not annoying.

The wife, of course, dismissed it as merely another display of obssesive behaviour that until now, she thought was reserved for speakers and amplifiers etc.!

Must start a CRT Newbie Support Club.

I agree with you, IT IS OBSESSIVE.

I had a Sony 1020 very similar to your 1001 about 4 years ago, I gave it to a friend in Hong Kong before we left to come here to Switzerland.

I bought a Sanyo XP21 LCD projector as it was easier to move around as we weren't suppose to stay long here.

Anyway, I now have a Marquee 8111+ on the way from Curt,
I don't even have it yet, AND

I just secured a 9500LC with burnt tubes.

They are multiplying and I haven't even got one here yet.

I ALWAYS was going to go back to CRT, but 2 in a month, Hmmmmm

I may look into shoehorning the 8111+ into my RPTV, now that would be a project.

I Love it. :D :D :D

Cheers
Steve

Niels Nielsen,

I think that Curt would be as close to a CRT FACTORY as anyone can get !!!!!

Though I am sure there are others that are trying to keep up :D :D :D

How many projectors does it take to be called Obsessed ?????

Cheers
Steve

I would say that when you reach double digits (like clarence) it becomes a WAF issue.
I Would put the obsession value at 20+ (giving clarence a goal).

With these factors into the CRT=Obsession equation - then I am safe for a few months - unless my association with clarence is a negative factor in the equation.

Going to have to go to the HP calc for this

Don't forget to add turning bi-polar.

You're all happy one minute working on/tweaking the set, then the next minute sledgehammers start flying when you can't nail the one ^&*$*^$ corner of convergence or solve the intermittent problem in the &^@!@%$$ set.

Come to think of it, that's how I fix most of these CRT's which explains the bad condition of most of the cases.

:)

"Does CRT = Obssesive behaviour? "

In more ways than one. Moreover, it's the quest for better/best home theater. Enjoy. Few trips/adventures in life are so fruitful.
