I got these pics from a guy selling a Sony projector. They are a bit fuzzy, but to my untrained eye the tubes look ok, unless that big brownish (ut oh,) mark on the right side of the blue tube is a big ol' burn. Are these pics clear enough to tell? If so, are these decent tubes?

Is the right side of the third picture really dark with a line down the middle or is that a shadow? It would be unusual to wear like that, I'd guess it's a shadow. From the pictures it doesn't look like there is any wear...they look good to me.

Yea, I thought it was a bit strange for a burn in too. It could be a shadow from the right side of the case. If it is a crazy burn, I would think I would see the same pattern on the other tubes. Perhaps I am wrong about this.

Not necessarily. The blue often goes first. But I'd guess it's a shadow. Ask him to shoot it again with different lighting.

I've seen some odd burn patterns in this forum on machines that were used in flight sims - green toasted on the bottom, blue on the top! I guess nobody told them they need to spend half their time flying upside down to make sure they keep the tubes good...

That said, it would be an odd application indeed that would be displaying blue on the right side only. But some fixed installation that was showing a conference stage with blue curtains on the right might do it.

It would be helpful to specify the model - Sony VPH-125x'sand 127x's tend to cook the blue tube earliest, while a VPH-1292 or G-70 (or D-50?) will wear the green down faster.

My 2 cents

if it is a shadow, you are good to go... that is a very odd burn pattern.. seems prety light... even if it is not a shadow, you should be good except for all white

Thanks for the input guys, it is nice to have experienced eyes helping me out. Consensus seems to be that they are probably ok. And yes it is a G50, you win the prize Cliff. I think I am going to ask for the guy for another blue pic just to be safe.

I think the blue and the green have wear.

Still worth getting if it's cheap.

But not worth retubing a D50 these days.
