Not sure if I am understanding what you want, but I will try to give you my 2 cents.
If FM radio gives you adequate sound quality then the FM transmitter should work ok for you. Just remember that should you drive a lot the odds that you will hit a FM station greatly increase so you will be changing the station for the transmitter.
For 200 bucks, getting a new aftermarket head unit with bluetooth should be pretty easy to find. You would lose your 6 disk changer but is sounds like the droid is replacing that anyway. I suggest getting a headunit that has bluetooth and a front mounted usb input. This would/should allow you to play your phone though the radio and also charge your phone.
I suggest using Crutchfield as they include a mounting kit and wire harness kit along with the instructions for your truck. Makes it pretty much idiot proof in installing and they have pretty good tech support.
