Quite simply, your phone is not supported.
There may be a firmware update that can help. Try contacting Pioneer. Or keep searching for a work around.

Galaxy S4Android 4.2.2Samsung Adapter* is supported.
I think you need to run appradio app on S4 that will sync to 8500 over BT
I'm not sure if HDMI connections is expected to transfer audio to 8500, while for video it's a must.
you need this
info at pioneer is misleading. no other connectors are need for the S4
Well this sucks. I ordered both Samsung mhl adapters and one connects it to hdmi and never disconnects, but it doesn't read it on the head unit! this is frustrating. I think my S3 used to work on it because it was rooted. I rooted my S5 last night and will install a custom ROM today or tomorrow and then test it out. Its very frustrating. It all connects through BT though. I can stream Pandora through BT but only as audio just as with my music on my phone. I can't control the Pandora app through the head unit or get info on what is playing. So annoying and frustrating. I have been searching for a while and nothing. I also posted on xda 2 days ago and not 1 reply. this sucks.
