Car Audio Guys, WTH?

So I have a new car with a premium Harman-Kardon system and it's got two subwoofers mounted in the trunk that face up and fire into the egg crate hard foam on the underside of the trunk floor. What is the point of that? To shake the trunk, and battery? Totally confused.

In my experience its to ensure that I can listen to Hip Hop and Rap while I'm stopped at a light.

Between the blower and the exhaust, I'm not sure why it has a stereo in the thing, you can't hear it.

if you cant hear it, take it out. you need 140db spl in a car audio system to hear/feel it while driving around...if your racing with 400hp or more I wouldnt even want to be listening to anything other than the exhaust/tires

I think most factory stereos would be the equivalent of HTIB or a sound bar . I really don't know what all the new vehicles have but from being into car audio in the past I doubt they still come close to what you can get for a fraction of the price doing things with aftermarket parts(but quality install/labor is expensive if you don't install things yourself). But most are sold as part of a premium package so you probably don't have much of a choice in it.

HTPC, Sony 40es, 120" Silver Ticket, 7702mkii, Sunfire Amp 225w, JBL 590, JBL 520

PSA XS30, Seaton Submersive, 2 Um-18 8cf sealed, Outlaw Ultra x 12, Kappa Pro 18LF, BFM Tuba 60 horn, B&C 18TBW100 6cf 41hz, 34hz, 28hz tune

iNuke 3000 & 6000 DSP's, Crowson Motion Actuator

I've found that many of the factory car audio systems are pretty damn good. Maybe not 160db or anything like that (thank gawd) but balanced and pleasant.

Get a Tesla P100D,

Runs in the mid 10's and you can hear the stereo!

Audiophile drag racing? Now THAT would be a funny excuse--gotta hear the stereo.

In a hellcat, I figure the stereo was made as light as possible so you have that.

That Hellcat out performed the Tesla and it had another 10mph on the sparky car, the guy just snoozed at the light.

What you'd have to watch out for at min 4:00 in a vid I took (actually, my grandson held the camera) at the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drags in Stanton, MI is this 1964 full size 426 Max Wedge Plymouth

The cars run under vintage NHRA Pure Stock rules for this series, but none of these cars had cages so any faster than an 11:50, you're out for the rest of the event. No DRs so if a car ran on 8.55x14 bias ply when new, that's what they had to run on for the event. Good thing is, even though those bias plies look identical to the originals, the reproductions are made from modern compound so they hook quite well.

And at min 9:20 one of the only (and the only that I can remember) tie in ET and trap speed.

The Hellcat has been banned (wrong the Demon has been banned) from NHRA pure stock racing unless equipped with a full cage. My local track allows cars to run 10.00 without a cage.

Newer cars with good roll over protection can run 9.99 before cage requirement. Older stuff, the 11.49 rule still applies. Stock Hellcats run 11.50s to 11.70s at about 122

Thanks Scotty, the Demon is banned not the Hellcat. (I've been reading so much stuff on the web I got my cars mixed up).

Sure, it's OK with me until someone comes along an explains why the subwoofers are trapped in the spare tire well.
