I'm a fan of the w7 line from JL... 13's pretty big, so I can't imagine you'd need more than that in an Impala... The amp to power it is gonna be quite a drain though.

Main screen turn on. All your base are belong to us.

If you want SPL, go with lesser known brands like RPI, Elemental Designs, Stereo Integrity, etc. I have a Stereo Integrity Magnum D12. It's a louder, more accurate w7 for whole lot less

Check out the Critical Mass UL 12. Car Audio tested and rated it best sub ever. Heard it once at a show and I might believe this.

Yep, this guy knows what he is talking about. Get a Mag 12 " The best sounding loud sub out there"

Earth: The Insane Asylum of the Universe, nowhere else could things be this screwed up.

Reference Engineering and Digital Designs are two other good brands. A good note: If you can find it in best buy, circuit city or hh gregg, it's not worth it (except head units that is).

Three letters... J B L

I've done alot with them. Had 4 15" subs in the back of a chevy express cargo van with twin 2200w JBL amps. Not only was it loud, it was clean. I was able to hear it clearly 3 blocks away.
(i was using horns for my mids and highs though too)

Seriosly, JBL, JL are high-end best buy stuff at best. Those companies are a joke in the real car audio world.

I don't know if I'ld call them a joke. They're good mainstream stuff but you can easily get better for less

Since he said he is looking for a purely SQL driver, out of that list, without a doubt the best woofer is the 13w7 from JL. It is the epitome of a SQL driver, but it costs and arm and a leg.

You may want to look at the Fi Audio Q model, it'll be less than half the price of the 13w7 and will come close to matching it's quality. Google Fi Car Audio and they'll pop right up.

I just purchased a 15" SSD model from them, and it has some of the nicest quality construction I've witnessed on a subwoofer, especially for a subwoofer rated @ 800w rms at $210 shipped.

JL makes some of the nicest amps and subwoofers in the car audio market... Just they charge a ton. You can get equal for less money, true, but to a SQ oriented person, you won't fight a woofer to match the w7 model for much less, let alone beat it.

I don't use their stuff because I can get similar quality/performance for a lot less.

How much SPL are you shooting for? None of those are great SQ woofers so I assume you are looking to be loud. If your just going for boom, the pioneer 15 will be the loudest if you can afford the amps needed to run it. They got 176 db out of two of them in an xB

I'll second Fi Audio and also Resonant Engineering. I have an 01 Imapala and have 2 RE SX 15s ported. It does hurt the ears, turns heads, impresses my friends, etc... having had 2 18s ported in a Ford Ranger, it's not loud enough for me.
