Is this impossible?

I have a Honda Odyssey minivan, and I am not willing to put a sub in a box that will inhabit any of the cargo area, which leaves under the middle seats.

Is there such a beast?

I get the feeling that I would be best off with 6 1/2" midrange drivers for the rear speakers to help fill in bass.

Does this idea have any merit?

I could use some feedback on the speakers I am now looking at:

Boston Acoustics SL65
CDT Acoustics EF-61NEOX

I wouldn't use 6.5" drivers for bass...they're perfect for mids but not bass.

Am I basically SOL unless I have a bass in a big box or expensive custom job in some side space?

How much room do you have between your front seats?

I could possibly put a sub between the front seats (there is a tray between them). I won't put one between the middle seats since people walk through there to get to the back. I could put one under the middle seats, but I can't imagine any that would sound good and fit.

How much room do you have under the seats? They make 8" subs that require very small sealed enlosures (.30 cu ft). They even have some 10" subs that can go into box almost that small. Look around.

As for how it sounds, well they make 8", dual 8" and 10" enclosures (all down firing) that fit under the rear bench seats of extended cab pickup trucks and they sound good. Just may not be as loud.

Check the 6.5"/7" woofers from Elemental Designs. Lots of good feedback from people using them, and with slight modifications you could probably incorporate them into doors or small enclosures and be happy with the amount of bass. They are pretty cheap, too!

For music, I'd go for a sealed sub vs a ported sub, so it really shouldn't matter too much WHERE you place it, though if under a back seat, you might get some folks a little too excited about getting the over the sub seat (;

Agreed. Saw some Premier (pioneer) 8's that were less than three inches deep that work in very small (.20 cu ft.) sealed boxes or work free air. They had shallow tens and twelves also but require a box and slightly more airspace.

im looking at the infinity basslink series. I have heard great reviews and actually posted a question on here regarding them. They are amp, sub, and box all in one in a small inclosure to fit behind seats or underneath seats. Should have one at your local bestbuy to listen.

Ok, for this installation I would recommend using a KOLE 10" /800 watts MAX/400 watts RMS. It is a slim/"FLAT" sub that is easy to install in the smallest of spaces.

It is a some what hard to find sub, but if you can find one they are usually under $150.
