Having seen my hang gliding videos, shot with an hdc-sd1 and an hdc-sd5, a buddy got a hdc-sd9... and can't edit the video!!!

Vegas GPFs when a file gets dropped on it, Pinnacle shows the files in the timeline, but can't render them (you get about one image for every two seconds of video until you get to the 24p video, which just goes green screen).

I have verified this with these files on my system.

Has anyone else gotten an SD9 and successfully used it with either of these programs?

Anyone verified these problems?

You can add ULead Studio 11 to that list. I had a couple of SD9 files and the program couldn't recognize them. There appears to be something different about the SD9's files.

I tried some *SH9* Raw clips and they worked fine in Vegas 8 pro. I wonder what is different between the SD9 and SH9? (SD9 raw clips froze Vegas pro for me too)

Ken have you download Austin Meyers HF10 videos yet?

Very nice....no raw footage...but still look great compared to the HV20/HG10

Add me to the list of folks that is having a terrible time trying to edit footage from my HRC-SD9. I tried the latest versions of Vegas, Ulead and Pinncle and failed every time. It's incredibly frustrating. You think Panasonic would have tested the footage with the Pinnacle software they bundle the camera with. At least now I know it's not just me that's having a problem.

Is it an audio problem? 5.1 may be causing the freezing? can you set the SD9 to stereo?

not a 5.1 audio issue...just demuxed a file and both audio.m2t and video.m2t fail

Looks like a m2tsplugin problem. divide by zero stuff....yuck!

Unsure if he wants the website shown?

But here it is:

http://file.meyersproduction.com/hf10/

Very cute puppy and nice sound test! Thanks Austin!

Maybe a mod can remove the website if he doesn't want the link?

The compare.zip file has some captures HF10 24P,30P and 60i also HV20 24P/60i and HG10 24p/60i taken from the 90MB comp-20k.mov file

Nothing Raw(.m2ts) but the 472MB 20k Audio test is awesome!

I was a bit disappointed. I thought he'd have some real footage of something tangible. The only thing I saw was the rotating fan comparison. That doesn't really show me too much about the picture quality comparison of these respective units.

Maybe he'll have something better later.

Yeah, the footage isn't that insightful. Would like to see some raw footage.

From the still photos: I think the HG10 has the lowest noise level followed by the HF10, with the HV20 third. I'm actually shocked at how noisy the HV20 stills are.

The resolutions looks similar to me, maybe the HG10 a bit softer.

Like to see him set all three on tripods and shoot the same scene. Just a 10 second raw clip from each should do the trick.

Played with the SR11 at BestBuy. Fantastic camera! I think it might be my next purchase................

Eric, I've got the SR12 and it is indeed a fantastic camera. To my eyes it may well be the best HD consumer camcorder I've ever seen. Colors are superb, clarity and resolution appear better than my HV20 (not by a huge margin, but to some degree). As you mentioned, I'm also seeing reduced noise relative to my HV20 with the SR12 picture. AVCHD has come a long long way.

The other thing I'm noticing about the new AVCHD cams is they appear to hold detail better while panning than HDV cams. I'm betting the upcoming AVCHD Canon cams will be comparable in picture quality, but they won't have viewfinders.

BTW, I asked Austin if he could provide a wide angle comparitive series of clips, shot outdoors. That would give us a great idea of the picture quality of the HF10 vs the HV20.

Thanks!

I'll wait for the release of the HF10/100......but I don't see how they can top the SR11/12.

In the meantime I'll hangout in the SR11/12 thread!

I use the hdc-sdX series to record hang gliding.

You can't beat the size / stability of recording to SD.

Flying around with a hard drive is not an option. Tapes, even less so.

I tried my HDC-SD9 files in Nero 8. The .mts files worked fine and it transcoded fine also.
Mybe there is a problem with ULEAD and Pinnicle.
