Does any one have the Canon Macro Lens for the HF10/HF100/HR10 Model #Canon 1305B001 WD-H37C Wide Converter Lens?

Does it work well? Does it require more light to get good quality video?

Solid! I won't be ordering the camera for a few more days, but went ahead and bought the card for that price. Thanks!

The worlds largest online retailer (not sure if I can post names or not) has the HF100 for under 800 right now.

Unfortunatel IMovie cannot rip to AVCHD so you will need to downsample..

Hello, I am also a new proud owner of the HF-10!

I am having a great deal of fun recording in high def. However my ultimate goal is to be able to stream the raw *.m2ts files to my xbox 360 from my PC. I have posted a few quesitons regarding this process and I figured I would join in this thread as well with my concerns since I am sure at least some of you will be wanting to do the same. In short, is there a method of streaming the m2ts files to the Xbox 360 or maybe converting the files into a WMV HD file to stream to the xbox? Or do I need to go out and buy me a PS3? =)

Well I hope this starts some discussions. Thanks in advance for your comments all!

Ditto. Anyone know any good telephoto lens? The Canon ones seem pricey. There are quite a few cheap ones on eBay but I am weary. Can't find much information on those lens.

I have the HF10 and HF100 in hand. Does anyone need any comparisons?

I must say the grey/silver on the HF100 looks much much better in person.

I will likely end up selling the HF10. I'd rather switch out 16GB cards (HF100) than go into the menu to choose my recording medium (HF10). That way I can unload my 16GB card while recording on the new card and then just switch.

One more

*One thing to note. The HF10 is more prone to fingerprints because of its glossy finish compared to the matte finish on the HF100.

I'm on vacation in Puerto Vallarta right now. My HF-100 arrived as we were leaving for the airport. I opened the box, grabbed the charger and camera, installed the battery and inserted the 16 gig transend card. I then threw it in my backpack. The silver of the 100 is great like others have mentioned. Very easy to use and hold. I love this thing. When I get back I will post some 30 progressive raw clips that feature the great zoom and detail of some Iguanas I captured eating in a tree. The detail is so amazing to me.
I also can't understand how they packed this all into a great little camera.
Enough of this, gotta get back to the pool and drinks. More when I get back.

Shot some footage with the camera yesterday at 24p, 30p and 60i trying to get it imported into FCP. Figured out that I have to import it using
file -> log and transfer

but when it gets imported everything is set to 1920x1080 29.97 can someone explain to me how I can get this working correctly. I really want to shoot in 24p and edit in 24fps, and I know there is a way to get it to remove every extra 5th frame... just can't figure out how to do it.

I'm using FCP 6.0

thanks

MOBILITYTODAY.

I purchased the HF10 from Dell for $1099 minus a 20% off coupon. The next day, the price dropped to $899. I'm trying to get the difference back, but they will not budge from my after-coupon price of $879. Can you tell me who you talked to at Dell that adjusted your purchase the extra $200?

Thanks.

You should have tried when the $899.99 price was in effect. You would have had a better chance, but keep trying, someone might eventully do it. I had to call 4 times on one occasion but it worked.

This new hobby is costing more than I though I would put into it.

Now I find myself spending money on BP-819 ($80.00), 2 16GB SDHC ($134), DM-100 ($165), TL-H37 ($100). And I haven't even bought a nice case yet. *sigh

Are you so afraid of tapes so you rather accept worse PQ? Reason I'm asking is because HV20/30 has arguably better PQ and cheaper than these ones yet apparently many of you go with these... size or the tape? And PQ less of a concern?
Just curious, thanks.

Well...the difference in picture quality is minimal...in fact, some people would say that the HF10/100 produces a better picture than the HV20/30. The advantage of the HF10/100 is both the fact that it is very small and that the use of soild state frees you from the hassle of Tape...maybe people (my self included) are looking forward to being able to transfer our footage without haveing to sit there and wait for a real-time capture like you have to do with tape...I think even the pros would have to say that Tape is on the way out (especially with the storage requirments of the higher end formats such as 3k, 4k or 5k)

Thanks for the help guys with recording to SD card instead of the internal memory on the HF10. Now I have another question about how to get the videos and pictures off of the SD card.

When I put the SD card into my PC I'm able to navigate it and find the MTS and JPG files just fine but when I open ImageMixer the options for Create Disc, Save Files to PC, and Write Back to Camcorder are all greyed out. Anyone have any ideas to get this working so I can get the resulting m2ts files that ImageMixer usually makes for me when I have the camcorder directly connected to my PC?

Thanks!

Im stoked i just got done ordering my new HF100 through amazon.com. I had a $125 credit from my credit card company so only cost me 652 out of my pocket. Then like $60 for the 16gb card. I will get an extra battery and another card soon, and lens, and holder. I cant wait to get it. My wife is pregnant with our first child so i will be using a lot.

Thank you for everyone posting comments about this camera to be able to finally convince me to get this one.

The transfer time is what killed tape for me. Reviews of current generation AVCHD like the HF10 and SR12 show that the quality is at least close enough to HDV that it's a viable option.

has anyone tried the bp-819 battery? I'm wondering if it's worth it to buy- how much longer life do you actually get out of it? Also, what has been people's experience with the included software? I'm so excited I get my camera within the next two days!

I haven't tried the bp-819 battery yet, but it's rated at 180mins (most likely closer to 150mins in actual use). The included software is actually OK for basic stuff. You can make quick AVCHD dvds that play back perfectly in the PS3, and standard def dvds that play fine in a regular dvd player. You can't really customize the look of the dvd menu, but it does the job. You can also do basic editing, transferring to and from the camera, and organizing of the video. It's NOT compatible for Macs, so unless you're dual booting, you're out of luck.

Thanks- good to know. I don't think the battery would be worth it to me. I typically don't record for that long, and if I do- I'm close to a power source, but you never know- I may need a backup someday, I just hope newegg will still have a good deal on it! As for the software- I'll probably pick up ulead or something. So excited...

Well here is a quick update on my end Talbain:

I have succesfully converted m2ts to wmv hd using this pretty cool tutorial:

http://www.vimeo.com/629815

I dont know if its old school but it at least did the trick. Highly recommend you guys checking it out!

I did it slightly different than what the OP of the tutorial advises. I basically skipped the middle step and went m2ts->wmv @17Mbps. Unfortunately the 5 min clip I was playing with took ~2.5 hours to convert!!! =(

At the end of the conversion however, the wmv file at 17Mbps looked EXACTLY the same as the raw m2ts file.

I was able to stream the wmv file to my xbox 360 with beautiful results!

PROS: Can now stream wmv files with original m2ts video quality directly to my xbox 360 (both files were approx same file size).

CONS: 5 min clip took 2.5 hours of processing with a decent system (2.3GHz dual core, 4GB RAM, 32 bit OS)

Summary: I am going to call this option A. =)

Fill me in on how your efforts go buddy!

Thanks for the posts all!
