so I have a Sony HDR-CX550V that records in HD and standard quality. Tomorrow I got signed up to film an elementary school talent show. I want to record it in 16:9 HD but I need to give a 4:3 Standard format (I think) copy on DVD to the school so they can broadcast it on the town's local cable access channel.

I'm trying the standard video DVD conversion burning tool on my PMB 5.0 software but I think it might output it in widescreen and not 4:3. After this I try Sony Vegas Pro 9, I think that has the right output tool to burn with

How does the cable channel currently manage to broadcast all their other 16:9 material ?

Either they currenty;
a) maintain the 16:9 shape in a 4:3 frame - ie black bars top and bottom, or
b) use the 'zoom' function on their DVD player to crop the 16:9 down to fill a 4:3 frame, or
c) squeeze the 16:9 to fit the 4:3.

Either way, the method the station currently uses can also be applied to your 16:9 footage.

I personally would avoid making different version DVDs - stick with the one 16:9 format.
