I have one such order with a very reputable dealer who said the camera should be in no later than next week. What could anyone possibly have to lose with placing an order like that?

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Me too I bought from them...hae u got a cheaper price ;-) ??

Below is a link to a post on DVINFO.net of a XF100 video of Hong Kong at night.

I think the HF-G10 has the same sensor so this might be an indication of what low light on the G10 might look like. The poster is a fellow called Flemming Bo Hansen.

The video is impressive.
His comments about the camera are also interesting.
I know the price is double the G10's but the video is still worth a look.

Not sure what kind of link this is, but it doesn't work when I copy & paste.

The other low light clip looked excellent though.

Everything works. Instead h.. p just write http! There are two 7-zip archives. Each has 5 parts. Just download, unzip with 7-zip and look. Unfortunately I can not post direct links!

PS: The clip names are in Japanese, because they come from Japan.

1) G10 シネマスタンダード MXP.mts - Cinema Mode Standard MXP
2) G10 オート MXP.mts - Auto-Mode MXP

Marcolisi, very hard to tell from that video. I wouldn't draw any conclusions from it. Let's wait for the actual product to arrive. There was another video showing the guys climbing the mountain in the snow that looked great.

I would think with the LCD closed and the VF open, the power to the LCD would automatically shut off. That's how they work in all the cameras that have both LCD & VF.

Thanks for the reply.
With the panasonic if u hit record and than u close both the lcd and VF, the camera keeps recording.....so maximum save of energy, in case u want to record wildlife and avoid external light that could attire animals attention and disturb..... I was hoping that the canon could do the same

Maybe not, and that remains to be seen (I'm really not sure how much better it is than the Panasonic), but there certainly are better performers in overall PQ...at least in MO.

Just so you know CCI did not give Sony good marks for OIS. I know Sony fans don't care about CCI but having used the 560 and the TM900 I will say I like the TM900 OIS better. No way to judge Canon without trying it.
I found the OIS in the Sony to be good but not as good as the Panny.

Hard to tell, as the person seems to be on a bike and then there off the road on the grass and then the video gets shaky, this would happen on any camcorder even with excellent stabilization.

I am torn between the Canon and the Panasonic 900, but some thing tells me with what has happened in Japan, we might not see the Canon for a very long time, hopefully I am wrong.

This is all true but they already been producing these units and had a huge shipment to be sent to the U.S. But I am sure there will be delays, a Canon rep I know told me this and I confirmed this by calling Canon. The initial shipment will hit the U.S. in April. But I am sure the production of newer units being made will be trickling in at a very slow rate as all goods coming from Japan for some time will have to be screened more throughly etc..

Spoke with a great rep from Canon today. Told me that they expected these in on the 14th of March. According to the rep, it looks like they are delayed into April. We shall see....

Marcolisi, unfortunately it seems that this unit is 'dead in the water'. I called ABT a few days ago mentioning that the last ABT sales person I spoke to said their Canon Rep told them last week or 'no later than next week' (meaning this week). Apparently that was not accurate and ABT apologized for that misinformation.

At this point Canon is refusing to commit to any delivery dates for any unreleased product.

Do you have any other information?

The Camera Company I buy most of my stuff from said that Canon is trying to get current released items to the US as fast as possible, but logistics are all out of whack causing delays because of the disaster. Canon USA said that there was a big shipment due to hit the states this week meaning "April" , thats all the person could give me, but they did say this camcorder was one of the products due out in "April" now once all these are bought up I am sure there will be more delays because of production being down. Of course this is all speculation on everyones part.

Well there's only one business day this week that qualifies as 'April' and that's Friday. So I think we can rule this week out. Then there's the issue of 'to hit the states' which is not the same as 'hitting the stores'...unfortunately.

So best case IMO is that the unit might be available 2 weeks after it hits the sates. But hey, that's just more speculation.

Ken, Cross your fingers it's Friday!!! I am in no hurry, as I hope Canon's price comes down a tad on this unit, as you can buy the XA10 Right now. and of course pay more.

If it doesn't come in by the time we leave on our vacation, I'll 'struggle' with the 900.

Ken, just got back from our vacation, hence that is why I am looking for a good camcorder. The Sony CX-150 got great reviews but it doesn't cut the mustard in low light. I was thinking of getting the 560V Sony or the 900 but I have holding off. When you say struggle, what do you mean as I thought the Panasonic was suppose to be excellent, but not sure in low light.

I do think the original price was expensive to begin with but because of this situation, if Canon sells every single unit right away, I don't think they'd want to lower the price anytime soon.

It'll be no different than the GH2 situation. Panasonic will not lower the price because every single unit that get's sent to the US will be sold right away. To this day, that camera is still very hard to get.

Low light is quite impressive. At the beginning you'll see a few daylight (overcast) shots from the G10 as well as the TMV-700. Apparently this guy got it directly from Japan and just fired it up...so I'm sure he wasn't getting the best results, but he thinks the camera is 'amazing' thus far:

Paramon is a very good person to ask to compare cams. He's done a ton of this stuff in the past. I just wish I could see an application more in tune with how I would use the camera. Of course he just got it, so I should wait, huh?
