Please give your advice as to if you think there is any downside to this process.
I have a Panasonic SD6000. I put my card into a card reader and copy the entire card (folder structure and all) to my hard drive. I then use Freemake to join the scenes and create an MP4 of the card. I then use Freemake again to burn a DVD if I am sending the movie to family or just keep the MP4 on my computer for viewing.
I also keep the original files from the card.
1) Am I getting any significant loss of quality?
2) If I am never going to use the files again, is there any other reason to retain the original if I have the MP4?
3) Is there a better format to save to instead of MP4?
Thanks for any input.
