I'm new to camcorders so please help me choose the better one between the two.

Toshiba Camileo P30 - Full HD SD camcorder (second hand, about a year old)

VS

Panasonic SDR-H20 - HDD camcorder (second hand, about 5 years old)

Both owners claim that their camcorder works 100% fine. I read lots of tests but can't decide. The prices are about the same for both. I need a camcorder which will have good image quality, I know tha HD resolution is needed for that but I somehow think that the SDR-H20 would be the better one for me. I would like to have the possiblility of live monitoring during recording via my laptop or my PC monitor, is that possible by the USB connection?

Please comment and pick your favourite between the two. Thank you!

PS: I'm adding another one to the competition:

PRAKTICA DVC 5.4 HDMI - Full HD camcorder (second hand, 2 years old), about the same price too.

So which one would be best of those three?

How much are you willing to spend?

You're listing cheaper camcorders - it would be better to get a new camcorder rather than take a chance with something that might die.

Out of those three, I would say the Toshiba - but buy it new, these things are not meant to last forever.

Another option is "refurbished", which are just as good as new, but cheaper.

I would not buy either one.

Spend enough to get 1080p60, good stabilization and recording on SD cards.

I bought that second-hand Praktica DVC 5.4 HDMI and whenever I record a video there is a loud high pitched noise present in the clip. I don't know if the camcorder is damaged (if it is I will return it and have my money back), or am I doing something wrong (but what?). The image quality is quite poor too, even when set to 1080p.

If I return this camcorder, which one would you recommend me? I'm looking for a cheap camcorder (cheap in terms of price, not quality).

How cheap ? You must give us a budget to work with. You can't have anything decent with US$ 50.00, perhaps a used camera for US$200.00 ? Don't buy anything older than 2 years .

As cheap as possible but still decent 1080p, less than 200 $ if possible. I'm in Europe so I'll be looking at models for the European makret. I was thinking maybe Toshiba Camileo P30 or S20, but those two don't seem too serious (not serious camcorders at all).

A Canon LEGRIA HF R306 is the closest you're going to get to an actual camcorder in that price range:

Amazon Germany:
http://www.amazon.de/Canon-Camcorder-Toch-LCD-SDXC-Kartenslot-Intelligent/dp/B006WZZNCC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1346695495&sr=8-4

Amazon Germany (English translation):
http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.de%2FCanon-Camcorder-Toch-LCD-SDXC-Kartenslot-Intelligent%2Fdp%2FB006WZZNCC%2Fref%3Dsr_1_4%3Fie%3DUTF8%26qid%3D1346695495%26sr%3D8-4&act=url

It has a filter thread for filters/lens, a mic input jack and dynamic image stablization...

As you see at Amazon, they have used ones - see if you can find refurbished.
