What is everyone's experience with Panasonics service for repairs? Seems like I've read about some nightmares, but I can't seem to find them in short order.

I scratched the lens badly on my TM700 and would like to have the outer glass replaced. It looks like a $18 part, but you have to break down the whole cam to get to it.

Curious if I should send it it Texas to the service center or have the local repair shop dig into it?

Cheers,
Pete

Sorry to hear about your lens. I always try to keep a UV filter on mine to protect it & hope to never need my camera serviced.

Even if it's just a lens, expect it to take at least a month if not longer for the repairs and turnaround. I elected to send my SD600K that had failed to Precision Camera rather than Panasonic at McAllen (due to the horror stories that I had read about the McAllen facilities) and posted a timeline and status here:

Suffice to say, I'm glad that I finally got my camcorder back and it's been working fine so far based on my tests.
