I just recieved my camera in last week or so and think an external mic will be needed. Apparently the mic must be powered but other than that I don't know what would best for cutting wind noise and general use. Thanks.

Hi fafnir - what is your price range? The "best" camera mounted mic is probably the $229 Rode Videomic Pro. At the lower end of the spectrum, you might want to take a look at the $85 Azden SMX-10. I have one of these, and it works well.

I've been using the Video MicPro for a while, and for it's cost it is a very good product. I was lucky to get the "dead cat" promotion and thus saved about $40 as such a wind screen is badly needed out of doors.
